Gary Hughes age 72, of Amarillo, TX, passed away on June 10, 2026. Born on April 25, 1954 in Amarillo, TX. Gary was the son of Billy and Beverly Jo Hughes. Gary was a devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather and friend whose life was defined by his faith, generosity and dedication to others.

After graduating from Eastwood High School in El Paso, Texas in 1972, Gary proudly served in the United States Navy, where he operated as a jet engine mechanic. Following military service, Gary worked many years as a skilled welder and mechanic at Southwestern Public Service Company. Gary also spent countless hours volunteering with the youth at Paramount Terrace Christian Church as well as Kids Inc., where he made a lasting impact on the lives of many young people.

Known for his creative mind and strong work ethic, Gary was always working on a new project. Whether building, fixing, creating, or gathering supplies he approached every endeavor with enthusiasm, ingenuity and determination.

Gary cherished his family. He was a steadfast and loving husband, father and grandfather who took great pride in the lives and accomplishments of his children and grandchildren. His love, guidance, humor and unwavering support will be deeply missed and forever remembered.

Above all, Gary lived a life grounded in Christian faith, finding strength and purpose in his relationship with Jesus. Gary leaves a legacy of faith, service, creativity, and love. While his family and friends mourn his passing, they find comfort in knowing that he is at peace in the presence of his Savior.

Gary was preceded in death by his father, Billy Hughes, and his mother Beverly Jo Hughes. Survivors include his wife Sylvie Gauthier Hughes; a son, Travis Hughes (spouse Jaime Hughes); two daughters, Mindy Hughes and Natalee Klotz (spouse John Klotz) and six grandchildren, Lillie Schmidt(Collin Schmidt), Payton Cayea, Avery Klotz, Andrew Klotz, Bailey Hughes, and Aaron Klotz.

Visitation will be held for family and friends Tuesday, June 16, 2026 from 6-7 P.M. at Boxwell Brothers, Amarillo. Funeral Service will be at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, June 17, 2026 at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, Amarillo.
