Gary Wayne James

Gary Wayne James, 80, of Adrian, Texas, passed away on July 31, 2026.

Memorial services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, August 10, 2026, at the Adrian Fire Department. Private burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Vega. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.

Gary was born in Amarillo, Texas, on June 10, 1946, to Dorothy Rae (Spande) and William Henry James. He graduated from Adrian High School in 1964 and later graduated from West Texas State College.

Gary served in the United States Army as Military Police and retired after 20 years of service. He then worked as a bailiff for the City of Amarillo and later as the water commissioner for the City of Adrian. Gary also served the Adrian community as a volunteer firefighter with the Adrian Fire Department for more than 50 years.

Gary was deeply civic-minded and was always willing to help anyone in need. He enjoyed reading all types of books, including rulebooks and regulations on subjects he felt passionate about. He also enjoyed researching his family genealogy. Above all, Gary loved the children in his community. He was active in his church, Adrian Church of Christ.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Linda James.

He is survived by his sons, Gary Michael James and wife Della, and Thomas James; his grandchildren, Chloe James, Karley James, and Oliver James; his brother, William Henry James III; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
