Amarillo

George Louis Rousset, 72, of Amarillo, TX passed away September 14, 2025.

Memorial service will be at 10:00 AM, Friday, September 19, 2025 at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.

George was born on August 30, 1953, in Brownsville, TX to Carlos Munoz and Alicia Rousset.

George was raised by a single mother and his grandmother. Though well-loved, his humble circumstances did not provide a lot of resources to bring success. George rose high above that.

George joined the military in 1971 during the Vietnam conflict. He married Carolina Vargas, his high school sweetheart, in 1973. They were stationed in Fort Hood and Fort Coltano in Pisa, Italy. George left the military in 1979 and received his accounting degree from Wayland Baptist University.

George and Carolina had two beautiful daughters. Cristina was born in 1975 and Melissa in 1979. George was so proud of his daughters. He gave them the tools to be independent and reach for success.

George worked for T Boone Pickens when he and Carolina moved to Amarillo. His next employer was SPS / Xcel Energy where he would be for 38 years. George built quite a career at Xcel. He began as an accountant and moved to manager. When he retired, he was a Credit Manager overseeing both commercial accounts and other collections. His real claim to fame was taking care of not only customers but his employees and colleagues. George’s generosity led him to become invested in the success of many at Xcel Energy. He believed that his success would come when others succeeded. He was generous with his time, his advice, and his effort.

George’s generosity extended not only as a mentor but in his own resources. He was a person who paid back anytime presented with the opportunity. If there was a fundraiser, George was all in.

George loved playing golf, buying tools at garage sales, and taking care of his lawn. It was hard to keep him still. He always had a plan and the energy to make it happen. He had a wonderful sense of humor and loved telling jokes and poking fun at the people he cared about.

George retired from Xcel Energy in 2022, planning to travel and enjoy his and Carolina’s new home. Parkinson’s Disease tragically limited that, but his zest for life and his love for his family stayed with him. He was loved by many people and will be terribly missed.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Alicia Munoz; his sister Mina Munoz; his daughter Melissa Lewis and son in law Harley Lewis.

George is survived by his wife, Carolina Rousset; his daughter Cristina Rousset; his granddaughter Nola; his brother David Munoz; his brother Carlos Munoz; his sister Sylvia Perez.
