Gerald Rhey Atchison, of Amarillo, TX, passed away on June 16, 2025.
A graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM, Wednesday, June 18, 2025, at Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
Gerald was born on December 14, 1941. He lived a full and faithful life, spending time in Arkansas, East Texas, and, for the last 23 years, in Amarillo. He was a devoted father, grandfather, and friend, known for his quiet strength, gentle spirit, and unwavering loyalty.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Helen Elaine Atchison.
Gerald is survived by his daughter, Judy Clifton of Clyde, Texas, and her husband, Larry; his daughter, Kim McGowan of Amarillo, Texas, and her husband, Richard; and his son, Jerry Atchison and his wife, Gail, of Tyler, Texas. He is also survived by his grandchildren Amanda McGowan, Peyton McGowan, Alexis McGowan, Sean Clifton, Hayden McGowan, and Caleb Atchison.
Gerald loved his Lord deeply and was a faithful student of the Bible, always looking forward to Bible class and time in Scripture. A lifelong learner, he had a deep appreciation for history and enjoyed spending time playing games with his family. He was a proud supporter of the Arkansas Razorbacks and a lifelong fan of the St. Louis Cardinals.
He lived out his values through action—demonstrating loyalty, compassion, and patience in every aspect of his life. He gave generously of his time, volunteering over 4,000 hours at the VA in Amarillo, where his kind presence and helping hands left a lasting impact on many.
Gerald will be remembered for his quiet faith, his loving devotion to family, and the steady, humble example he set. His life was a blessing, and his memory will continue to inspire those who knew and loved him.
