Glendell Selestene Bennett Tims, age 96, of Amarillo, Texas passed away to her Heavenly home on Monday, March 23, 2026, at The Ware Park Central.
Born on March 19, 1930 in Miami, Texas to Blondell Dunivan Bennett and Glen Wesley Bennett. She lived in Miami, Texas and Plainview, Texas where she attended high school. She helped raise her sister, Betty, after their mother was admitted to a long-term care center.
Glendell met and married the love of her life, Roy Aylesworth Tims on May 31, 1947 in Plainview, Texas. They moved to Amarillo and made a loving home there with their three children. Glendell was a longtime member of Washington Avenue Christian Church and was a member of the ladies Priscilla Circle where she made many lifelong friends.
She was most proud to be a homemaker and mother but also had a career working in sales and was PTA president at Will Rogers Elementary School working as a school cafeteria manager at Will Rogers and Emerson Elementary Schools. She was in sales at Colbert’s Dress Shop in downtown Amarillo, she also worked for an orthodontist.
Glendell loved reading her Bible and working in her Bible Word Search book. She loved the Lord and she was a joy to be around. She always had a smile and kind words for her friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Roy Aylesworth Tims in 2015; her son, Robert Wesley Tims (2011); a daughter, Diana Kay Tims Simpson (Stan) (2021); her parents, Glen Wesley Bennett, and Blondell Bennett; sister, Betty Lou Willingham; and nephew, Danny Lee Roland (Pat)
Survivors include her daughter, Glenda Gay Tims Cox and husband Donald M Cox, Dennis Cox (Pepsi), great-grandson, Robert Carl, of Amarillo, Jami Cox Doran (David), great-grandson Daniel Doran, Son in Law Stanley Simpson (Diana) and children Melissa Simpson Garcia and husband Robert Garcia and their children Robby, Anthony, and Matthew. Also, Anthony’s son Liam, granddaughter Darcy Simpson and her children Chance, Lennox, and Meredith. Daughter-in-law Kelly Tims and her children Jeni, Kari, and Jacob Slaughter. Niece Pat Roland (Danny) and their children Danya Amon of Roseville, Calif. And Tammy Turpin of Yuma, AZ, Nephew Roy Glen and Barbara Willingham of Sudan, TX, Kelly Fortune and Brent Lee Roland of Claremore, Okla. Friends of the family include Vicky and Ken Ahrens of Jefferson, TX and Becky Clayton and daughters of Amarillo, LouAnn Cleary of Dixon, Illinois, and Danita Lancaster of Amarillo.
We especially want to thank all the doctors, nurses and staff and Jan Werner Adult Daycare especially Dr. Katie Hunter and husband Ricky Hunter for all the care and love they showed my mother. Also, all the nurses and staff at Ware at Park Central for their love and support these past years. Thanks also to Berkli and Kelly and Harry at Plemons Court for their love and support.
No memorial services are scheduled at this time. Services will be held at a later date.
