of October, 2023 Gregory Allan Herring, 73, of Bushland, TX was released from the prison of dementia and rejoined the love of his life, Patricia in Heaven.

Memorial service will be at 1:00 PM, Saturday, October 21, 2023 at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.

Greg, as he was known, was born July 25, 1950 in Amherst, TX to his late father, Dean and mother, Mary Herring. He was the oldest of six children. Greg grew up in Hereford, TX where he attended Shirley Elementary School, Stanton Junior High, and Hereford High School from which he graduated in 1968. He was very active in Little League and Pony League Baseball while growing up. After high school, Greg entered the working world with various jobs before joining his brother, Cliff in running the Railroad Crossing Restaurant in Canyon in 1976. In 1982, he embarked on a 25 year career with the Burlington Northern Railway (BNSF) where he worked as a clerk, conductor, and locomotive engineer until 2007.

Greg met the love of his life, Patricia Nabours in 1986. They married in November 1987 and enjoyed 34 years of wedded bliss until her passing in March 2022. Greg was an avid bowler in his later years and was also a dedicated platelet donor. He was awarded the Coffee Memorial Blood Center’s Apheresis Donor of the Year in 2010.

Greg is survived by three children, Tamara Reiter and husband Duane of Carrollton, TX, Courtney Herring and husband Woody of The Colony TX, and son Nathan of Bushland, TX; his mother, Mary of Hereford, TX; brothers, Cliff and wife Teresa of Ruidoso, NM, Marc and wife Eileen of Epsom, NH, Kent and wife Christine of Pflugerville, TX, and Reid and wife Starla of Nixa, MS; sister, Monica Stauffer and husband Chris of Safford, AZ; three grandsons, Aidan, Logan, and Brendan; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the American Dementia Society, or the charity of your choice. The family would also like to thank the staff at Brookdale Sleepy Hollow and Gentiva Hospice for making the last years of his life comfortable.
