Gussie May Flowers

January 1, 1942 — April 10, 2024

Amarillo

Gussie Flowers went to be with the Lord on April 10, 2024.

Gussie’s life began in Huntington Park, California, where she was born to Charles Earl Hubbart and Katherine Mary Cook on January 1, 1942.  She was raised by both parents with her sister, Karole.  She and Karole shared a special bond and remained close throughout their lifetimes.

Gussie moved to Amarillo, Texas at an early age and graduated from Palo Duro High School in 1960.  After graduation, she worked in administration for Southwestern Public Service, Interstate Batteries, and Xcel Energy where she retired at age 62.  She and Kenneth married on January 2, 1992, and they had a beautiful love and remained inseparable during their 32 years together.

Gussie loved her family and took great pride in her daughter, stepchildren, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.  She never forgot a birthday or special event.  She loved the Lord, and her church home and family.  Her laugh was infectious and could light up the room.  She looked forward to her evenings with Kenneth watching old movies and doing jigsaw puzzles.  She’s famous for her love of Taco Villa, so much so that she earned a spot on their billboard.

Gussie is preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Katherine Hubbart.

She is survived by her husband of 32 years, Kenneth Flowers, sister Karole Jayroe, daughter Toni Golden, stepdaughter Kendre Flowers (Gary), stepson Conn Flowers (Danielle), grandchildren Elijah Guarriello, Kayce Davis (Alex), Gage Mariano and Lily Mariano, great-grandchildren Jordan, Karter, and Kaleb Davis, and beloved nieces and nephews.

Funeral services are scheduled for 2:00 pm Wednesday, April 17, 2024, at First Nazarene church in Amarillo.
