Helen Marie Lee

June 14, 1929 — July 12, 2025

Helen Marie (Tucker) Lee passed from this life and into the arms of her Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 12, 2025.

There to greet her was her loving husband, a son, and a number of family and friends.

Helen was born in Wichita Falls, Texas on June 14, 1929, to Floyd and Zula Tucker and then along with her siblings and parents, would move to Hereford, Texas while Helen was a young child.

Helen graduated from Hereford High School in 1947 and would later attend Hardin-Simmons University where she would meet, and fall in love with Albert Rex “Rocky” lee. This was a marriage that was blessed with the addition of three sons and would remain for the next 76+ years.

For a number of years, Helen was actively involved within her community having held several positions in the Deaf Smith County Chamber of Commerce Women’s Division, ultimately serving as President in 1973. In addition, she worked for 20+ years as a school secretary, first at Shirley Elementary and ending her career at Bluebonnet Elementary School. Helen and Rocky were long time members of First Baptist Church where she worked in various capacities from in the Nursery and as a Sunday School Teacher for all groups. Later they would join the Fellowship of Believers in Hereford and St. Stephen Church in Amarillo.

In addition to her work outside the home, she took great pride as a wife, a mother, and as a homemaker. Helen was fully involved in not only her husband’s ventures and endeavors, but also for each of her three boys and their activities. Although everyone seemed to occasionally go in all directions, it was her steadfast strength, support, and encouragement that her family relied on. As Rocky coached, and all three of her sons were involved in summer baseball, she followed them whenever and wherever they were playing having rarely if ever missing a game. Her artistic talents were evident everywhere in the home in the things she would paint, the clothes she made, her knitting and her needlepoint work. She cherished spending hours outdoors nurturing and loving her plants and flowers. Anyone that visited their home was sure to get a tour outside as well to see the beautiful gardens she had lovingly created. She had a fascination and love for all God’s creatures but especially with butterflies, which took on an all more purposeful meaning after the passing of her son Rick. To her, the butterfly was a gentle reminder from a loved one and a symbol of the resurrection and spiritual rebirth of eternal life through Jesus Christ. She so loved the butterflies that she planted butterfly bushes in her garden which were usually overflowing with their beauty. To her family, she always embodied that same sweet tender gentleness, grace, and beauty of the butterflies she so dearly loved.

Helen is survived by her sons, Ren Lee and wife Linda of Shawnee, Oklahoma, and Rex Lee and wife Melinda of Canyon; his daughter-in-law, Leslie Lee (spouse of late son Rick Lee) of Amarillo; five grandchildren, Chris Lee and wife Amber of Amarillo, Will Lee and wife Elizabeth of Amarillo, Summer Lee and husband Adnan of Austin, John Lee of Dallas. and Keeley Lee of San Diego, California; and two great grandchildren, Taran and Camryn Lee.
