Amarillo

Helen Ruth Maynard was born October 6, 1928, in Happy, TX in Swisher County and went to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, 16, 2024, at the age of 95.  She graduated from Happy High School at the age of 17.

Ruth married H.E. Maynard (Pat) on April 7, 1946.  She joined him where he was stationed in Camp Stoneman near California, where they lived until he was discharged from the Army.

They moved back to Happy and started farming.  In addition to farming, Pat was employed by the United States Department of Agriculture ASCS, first in Tulia, TX and then Canyon, TX.  During this time in Happy, Ruth and Pat were blessed with the birth of their three sons, Mark, Glen, and Don.  Ruth was a talented artist who taught China painting and oil painting.  One of her great loves was watching her sons, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren play sports.

Beginning in 1975, Pat and Ruth moved to College Station, TX; Washington, D.C., and Kansas City, KS due to career opportunities with ASCS Office.  On June 30, 1993, they retired to Amarillo, TX and joined Coulter Road Baptist Church.

Ruth was a wonderful and loving wife, mother, grandmother (Grandmama) and great-grandmother.  She was a member of the Pairs and Squares Dance Club, Joy Singers, China Painters Association, and always very active in her church life.

She was preceded in death by her parents, C.D. and Nora Taylor; two sisters, Lanelle Todd and Marie Taylor; her son, Glen Maynard; and her beloved husband, Pat Maynard, of 72 years.

She is survived by her two sons, Mark Maynard and wife Gay, of Tulia, TX, and Don Maynard and wife Molli, of Amarillo, TX; five grandchildren, Jeff Maynard, of Amarillo, TX, Chris Maynard and wife Hayley, of Amarillo, TX, Tim Maynard, of Houston, TX, Scott Maynard, of Houston, TX, Laci Jennings and husband Jesse, of TN; and thirteen great-grandchildren, Rhett, Jake, Will, Charley, and Cutter, all of Amarillo, TX, Alexandra, Eileen, Richard, Endora, and Damion, all of Houston, TX, and Keeli, Cody, and Brody, all of TN.

The family wishes to thank Bristol Park (Sagorasen) long-term care facility, and Hospice of the Southwest, for caring for our loved one.  We would also like to thank Sylvia Hernandez for her care of Ruth.
