Helen Lou Mitchell Charter

Helen Lou Charter, age 85 died October 28, 2025 in Amarillo, Texas. Arrangements are being handled by Bowell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd, Amarillo, TX 79109. No services are planned at this time.

Helen was born November 14, 1939 in Red River County, Texas to Elbert and Mary Flowers Mitchell. She attended Amarillo High School and later went on to get her GED.

Helen loved sewing and was a wonderful seamstress. She loved gifting her handiwork to her family, making clothes for herself, her husband and others. Her creations of doll clothes were admired by all who received them. She also loved working in her yard and gardening, growing both flowers and veggies good to eat. She especially loved Christmas and buying presents for her family. Her gift wrapping was beautiful and she took great pride in every gift she wrapped. She loved her family and her fur babies were her world. She was a wonderful wife, mother, sister, grandmother and friend and had a very generous and caring heart. She will be missed by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving her.

Helen was preceded in death by her parents; three brothers Clyde Mitchell, Dalton Mitchell and Harlan “Bud” Mitchell; three sisters Mildred Merritt, Nell Raff and Linda Holm.

Left to cherish her memory are her husband Richard Charter; her son Kelly Morton and his wife Martha; her daughter Terry Ford and her husband Rod; a granddaughter Chrystal Pettit, her two fur babies Princess and Angel and many nieces, nephews and friends.

The family would like to thank the staff at The Cottages at Quail Creek for the thoughtful care and love they provided to Helen over the past few months. We would also like to express our appreciation to the doctors in attendance and to the nurses and staff of Enhabit Hospice.
