Hildamae D Benedix, age 92, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2026 surrounded by her loving family. She was born on December 6, 1933 in St. Louis, Missouri to James and Bernadine Cooksey.
Hildamae was raised in Pasadena, California and St Louis, Missouri. Her first job after high school was working for a bank in St Louis on the new IBM proofing machine. She also worked as a florist, homemaker, bookkeeper, manager of a tractor supply store, and briefly in the apparel industry. She was a long-time Amarillo resident.
Hildamae's talents were many. She was extremely accomplished in knitting and crocheting and loved making items for her family. She also enjoyed cake decorating, sewing, crafting, and playing Canasta. She loved to travel, identifying Austria as her favorite county to visit.
She was a member of Trinity Baptist church, the Truth Seekers Bible Study Group, New Neighbors of Amarillo, AVIHK Shrine Temple No 70 Daughters of the Nile, Amarillo Chapter #787 Order of the Eastern Star, and KHIVA Honored Ladies.
Hildamae is survived by her three daughters Lynda Mitchell of Amarillo, Glynda Dallas of Clovis, New Mexico, and Rhonda Hardy of Decatur, Texas; seven grandchildren; 20 great grandchildren; and nine great-greats. She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard H. Benedix, in 1997.
Visitation will be from 5-6:30 PM, Friday, October 9, 2026 at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home, 2800 Paramount. Celebration of life will be held at 11:00 AM, Saturday, October 10, 2026 at Trinity Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
