It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Holly Vernon Bentley. She was a caring daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She left peacefully and went to be with Jesus on April 30, 2024 at age 70.

Holly was born to Jack and Nelda Vernon on April 14, 1954 in Amarillo, Texas. She married the love of her life Kenney Bentley on October 25, 1980. Together they had two children Brigitte and James. She will be greatly missed by her beloved grandchildren Bentley, Barron and Baker.

After graduating from Tascosa High School in 1972, Holly began her career in caregiving when she worked as a surgical technologist for Dr. Shwartz. Following in her mother and grandmother’s footsteps, she became a Registered Nurse after graduating from the Amarillo College nursing program in 1996. She worked as a surgical nurse in the operating room for many years and then went on to be the clinical manager of the surgical technology program at Amarillo College. She touched many lives of her co-workers, students, and patients in her 30 plus years as a healthcare professional.

Outside of spending time with her friends and family, Holly enjoyed tending to her garden, cooking, baking, singing, and dancing. She had a love for traveling and loved to be amongst the wildflowers in Colorado. “Gammy” loved her three grandsons dearly and always knew how to put a smile on their face. Holly was elegant, classy, beautiful inside and out, a woman of great faith, and could always make you smile. She planted many flowers over the years, but she was the most beautiful flower in the garden.

Holly was preceded in death by her parents, Jack and Nelda Vernon; and a brother Bradley Vernon.

Holly is survived by her husband Kenney Bentley; her daughter Brigitte Artho and husband Brad; her son James Bentley and wife Brittany; her grandchildren Bentley Artho, Barron Artho and Baker Bentley; her brother John Vernon and wife Lisa; her brother Barry Vernon and wife Jennifer along with nieces and nephews she loved dearly.

Visitation will be held from 6-7:00 PM, Monday, May 6, 2024, at Boxwell Brothers, 2800 Paramount. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at St. Paul Methodist Church, 4317 W. I40 with burial to follow at Llano Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Barry Vernon, John Vernon, Brad Artho, John-David Shannon, Bo Vernon, Jake Vernon, Matt Jaynes, Bob Ritter and Jack Ritter. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
