Jack Dale Mullis

Jack Dale Mullis peacefully departed on January 16th, 2024, at the age of 96 in Amarillo, Texas.  Born on May 6th, 1927, in Clovis, New Mexico to the loving embrace of Volly and Velma Mullis, Jack’s journey was one marked by love, service, and joy.

Jack grew up in Clovis with his two older siblings, Rod and Mildred.  After completing high school, Jack embarked on a noble chapter of his life by enlisting in the Navy in 1944, where he served on the USS Hoggatt Bay.  It was during this time that he met the love of his life, Ethelee Smith, and in the summer of 1946, they exchanged vows in Clovis, New Mexico. Together, they brought into the world two precious daughters, Jacque and Debora, who became the center of their lives.

The Mullis family later found their home in Amarillo, where Jack dedicated 38 years of unwavering service as part of the Special Delivery team for USPS, earning numerous driving safety awards and commendations.  Jack and Ethelee, united in faith, were proud charter members of Southlawn Baptist Church, and Jack’s unwavering spirituality and faith were seen by all.  The friendships that blossomed from their church became traveling companions with Jack’s favorite vacation spot in Branson, Missouri.

Retirement brought Jack the greatest joy in life.  He cherished the moments he spent with his daughters and grandchildren and loved spending time on his hobbies.  Whether he was cheering on the Dallas Cowboys or Texas Rangers, cultivating his lawn, or perfecting his golf game, Jack found fulfillment in the simple pleasures of life.  Early every morning, Jack could always be at the local pancake station in his pressed Levi jeans, cowboy boots, and hat.

Jack was preceded in death by his parents, brother Rod and sister Mildred, his beloved wife Ethelee, and daughter Jacque.  He leaves behind a lasting legacy of love, resilience, and a deep connection with family. Survived by his daughter, Debora Reed, her husband Butch, and son-in-law Larry Baggett, Jack’s spirit lives on in the hearts of his grandchildren Blue Baggett and wife Kendra, and Kyla Ripperger and husband Daniel, and his four great-grandchildren, Blake, Jackson, Kensley, and Reed.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorials be made to Snack Pak 4 Kids and the High Plains Food Bank, honoring Jack’s compassionate spirit.

Funeral services to celebrate Jack’s life will be held graveside at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, January 23, 2024, at Llano Cemetery. The arrangements are entrusted to Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, located at 2800 Paramount Blvd. Let us come together to remember, honor, and cherish Jack’s life.
