James was raised and went to school around Cottonwood, TX. Coy enjoyed working and staying busy. He was always tinkering with something. He loved camping and fishing with his family any chance he had. At the age of 15, his first job was a surveyor at El Paso Natural Gas. He also worked at a gas station in Abilene, TX. Coy met Emma Shott in Abilene when she was getting .50 cents worth of gas and a car wash. Emma went over and started talking to him and that was all it took, the spark was immediate! They got married and Coy started driving a dump truck and worked for Dry Manufacturing in Winters, TX fabricating evaporative cooler grills. James moved with the company to Abilene, TX. Later, he worked for Horrel Sign and Renco Sign Companies. Between jobs, he did sheet metal work for himself and Prefab Inc. James worked for Bess Gas servicing signs and then he owned and operated C & E Sheet Metal until his retirement.
