James “Jim” David Currie, 84, of Canyon died Tuesday, January 6, 2026.
The family will receive friends from 6 – 7 PM on Friday, January 9, 2026 at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Memorial services will be at 10:00 AM, Saturday, January 10, 2026 in Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel with Kyle Wilkinson officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Jim was born on January 22, 1941 in Amarillo, Texas to Roberta and David Hugh Currie. He first fell in love with film while visiting the set of the 1950 film The Sundowners while being filmed on his childhood ranch. He later took a job with KVII Amarillo News Channel 7 before retiring. He was a kind, caring, compassionate family man who dominated at playing cards and had the patience of a saint. He was loved by so many and taught others how to live a kind, patient, and loving life with empathy towards others.
He married Jeanmarie “Jeanie” Hamilton on April 29th in 2020. They have gone on many cruises and built their forever home in the Canyons overlooking Lake Tanglewood.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife Sondra Kerr Currie; daughters Kimberly Kathleen Deckard, and McKenzie Pipes; brother, Dr. Hugh Bob Currie; and his parents David Hugh Currie Sr. and Roberta Currie.
He is survived by wife Jeanie Currie; grandchildren, Brittany Currie Taylor and husband Rusty, James Deckard, Olivia McDonald and husband Matthew, and Kaeleigh Martin; nephews, David Currie and wife Jennifer, and Bob Currie and wife Tammy; nieces, Susan Currie and husband Dan, Sherry Forbes, Melissa Tye, Sarah Forbes, and Kathy Kubatzky and husband Tim; 6 great grandchildren and many great nieces and nephews.
