James Roy Mills

James Roy Mills was born in Wheaton, Minnesota, on July 14, 1936, to Roy and Ruby Mills, and he went to be with his LORD and Savior Jesus Christ on June 21, 2026. James married Nelda Jean Wright on October 26, 1957; they were married for 66 years. James and Jean have two children, Marsha married to Ron Harvell, and Gregg married to Lisa. They have 4 grandchildren, Stephanie married to Jonathan Lee; Jessica married to Ben Stallwitz; Steven Harvell married to Rachel; and Matthew Mills married to Kristen, and they have 14 great-grandchildren.

James barbered at Southlawn Plaza Barber Shop for 57 years. He loved being a barber; it was the job he wanted from the time he was a young boy growing up in Wheaton. Anytime he was asked why he wanted to be a barber, he quickly replied, “Because they were always having fun at the barber shop.” His customers spanned generations, cutting the hair of children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren of the men who started getting their hair cut by James when they were little boys.

James was a faithful and fun-loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. He will be missed.

We will celebrate James’ life on Monday, July 13, at 10:30 AM at Llano Cemetery, 2900 S. Hayes St. Amarillo, Texas, at the mausoleum. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
