Jeanette Wingate

Mar 3, 1963 — Oct 3, 2026

Jeanette Wingate lived a life filled with love, adventure, and purpose. On October 3, 2026, she began her next adventure, leaving behind a lifetime of beautiful memories. Surrounded by the family she cherished, she departed this life to a heaven, as she envisioned it, filled with fields of wildflowers, frolicking puppies, and the familiar faces of loved ones waiting to welcome her.

Jeanette was born on March 3, 1963, in San Antonio, Texas, to Glenn Alfred Tripp and Margaret “Peggy” Houlihan-Tripp. Her childhood was full of change and uncertainty, but those experiences helped shape the determined, independent woman she became. From an early age, Jeanette knew what she wanted most in life: a loving home filled with stability, traditions, compassion, and unconditional support.

On September 13, 1981, Jeanette married Mark Wingate in Palo Duro Canyon. Together, they built the life she had always dreamed of, raising three sons and creating a home where love and family came first. Jeanette was especially proud of breaking the cycles of her childhood and building something lasting. In her own words, she and Mark had created exactly what they wanted.

Jeanette was a woman of many passions. She was athletic, creative, courageous, and fiercely loyal to those she loved. She was someone who believed in experiencing life rather than simply watching it pass by. Whether jumping out of an airplane, tending to her flowers, or setting off on another adventure, Jeanette embraced life with enthusiasm and curiosity.

Her love of exploring took her to 42 states and nine countries. She collected sand from 62 beaches, attended concerts by 35 different artists with Mark, and made memories sailing, surfing, hiking, and discovering places off the beaten path. From the mountains of Kauai to the shores of the British Virgin Islands, Jeanette found joy in discovering what the world had to offer.

Sailing held a particularly special place in her heart. She described the feeling of moving across the water without a motor as both peaceful and exciting. She found that same sense of freedom in nature, especially while hiking through Palo Duro Canyon. Mark often said Jeanette wanted to go to the end of the road, and then a little further, just to see what was there.

While Jeanette loved adventure, her greatest pride was the family she and Mark created. Their three sons, the wonderful women they married, and their nine grandchildren were the fulfillment of the dream she'd carried since childhood. As Mark would say, it was "a beautiful painting."

Jeanette is survived by her husband, Mark Wayne Wingate; their sons, Mark Cristopher Wingate and his wife, Belinda Bre; Matthew Lucas Wingate and his wife, Ashley Kay; and Johnathan Wayne Wingate and his wife, Haley Shea; and nine grandchildren: Ryne, Bryce, Lucas, Weston, Brittyn, Huxley, Kyndall, Dansby, and Marley. She is also survived by her sister, Kathryn Goldthorpe, and her husband, Jeff; her brother-in-law, Harry Halsell; her beloved aunt, Kathleen Cochran of Ireland; and many cherished relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn Alfred Tripp and Margaret “Peggy” Houlihan; her sister, Glenda Aileen Halsell; her mother- and father-in-law, Patricia Cooper and Jim Wingate; and her dear friends, Darla J. Mathis and Larry Larson.

In preparing for this day, Jeanette wrote, "I've had such a wonderful life." She wanted those she loved to remember the laughter, adventures, and memories they shared, rather than dwell in sorrow.

Jeanette has finally discovered what lies beyond the end of the road: that beautiful meadow, the people she missed, and a whole new adventure to embark on.
