Jerry Jean Yows, 88, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away on June 30, 2025 surrounded by family.
The family will receive friends from 2:00 P.M. to 3:30 P.M., Sunday, July 6, 2025, at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home. Services will be at 11:00 A.M., Monday, July 7, 2025, at St. Paul Methodist Church where Jerry and family have been members for many years. Pastor Bill Ivins will be officiating. Burial will follow at Memorial Park Cemetery. To respect Jerry’s years in the Marines, military honors will be provided by Volleys for Veterans. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
Jerry was born in Shamrock, Texas, on September 12, 1936, to Lula Marie (Bullock) and Neil Gregg Yows, Sr. He graduated from Borger High School in 1955. He later graduated from West Texas State University with a master’s degree in education.
Jerry began his career in education as a coach in Canyon, Texas, prior to moving to Farwell, Texas, for his first principal job. In 1979, upon his marriage to Lilah Bailey, he moved to Dalhart, Texas, and became the principal of the Junior High School. He later became the Dalhart High School principal, a position that he held until retirement. Throughout his career, he illustrated a passion for student success and teacher support. Following retirement, Jerry and Lilah moved to Amarillo, Texas, in 1995 to be closer to family.
Jerry Jean has been a member of the Lions Club since 1969. Over the course of his many years of membership, he served as president of Farwell Lions Club, Dalhart Lions Club, and Downtown Amarillo Lions Club. He looked forward to serving the community through each annual service event.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Lilah Yows; children, Colleen Campos and husband Anthony, Michele Goslee and husband Tim, Everett England and wife Tisha, and Jennifer Criado; grandchildren, Roman Campos, Lance England, Kylie England-Ostermann, Cody Kennann, Bailey Criado, Faith Covey, Jason Simon, and René Simon; and six great-grandchildren.
