Jimmy Don Brock

March 20, 1939 — January 16, 2026

Jimmy Don Brock, 86, passed away on January 16, 2026, in Amarillo, Texas. Born on March 20, 1939, in Haskell, Texas to Lamiza and Robert Brock. He lived a life marked by dedication to education, community service, and family.

He married Barbara Jean Elliott in Canyon Texas on July 9, 1961 and continued loving her for 65 years.

A proud graduate of Haskell High School in 1958, Jimmy continued his education at Ranger Junior College where he earned an associate degree in 1960. He then attended West Texas State University, receiving his bachelor’s degree in 1962 and later a master’s degree in 1969. His commitment to lifelong learning led him to complete his Superintendent certification at Texas Tech University in 1985.

Jimmy began his career as a teacher at South Georgia Elementary School in Amarillo, where he taught physical education and math from 1962 to 1973. His passion for youth development extended beyond the classroom when he became Executive Director of Kids Incorporated from 1973 to 1983. In this role, he helped shape recreational opportunities for countless children across the region.

From 1983 until his retirement in 2004, Jimmy served as Program Director for Physical Education, Health, Safety, Soccer, Wrestling, and Softball for the Amarillo Independent School District. His leadership and vision left a lasting impact on school athletics and health programs throughout the district.

Beyond his professional roles, Jimmy was deeply involved in community sports initiatives. He served as Chairman of the Amarillo Chamber of Commerce Sports Committee and was the Texas UIL Region I Wrestling Director—positions that reflected his enduring commitment to athletics and youth engagement.

Faith played a central role in Jimmy’s life. For over three decades, he taught Sunday School at Kingswood Methodist Church and held numerous committee and service positions within the congregation. His devotion to service was evident both inside and outside the church walls.

Jimmy found great joy in spending time with his family and pursuing outdoor activities. He especially cherished time with his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved following West Texas State athletics and his grandsons sports careers. He also spent time working on projects at the cabin he built in Red River, New Mexico—a place that brought him peace and pride. Whether riding through the mountains on his four-wheeler or tending to tasks with his beloved 1946 Ford tractor, Jimmy embraced every moment with enthusiasm.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Barbara Brock; son Craig Brock; daughter-in-law Stephanie Brock; grandsons Bryant Brock and wife Erin of Calico Rock, Arkansas; Timothy Brock and wife Kourtney of Lubbock, Texas; Joshua Brock and wife Hannah of Madison, Wisconsin; as well as great-grandchildren Tillie, Archer, Mesa, Tysen, Aspen, and Weston.

Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents Lamiza and Robert L. Brock; brothers Lonnie Brock, Ben Brock, Bob Brock, Mabry Brock; sisters Lela Harris and June Bowen; nephews Ronnie Brock, Donnie Harris, Rondel Brock, Mike Brock; and niece Janna Bowen Toney.

Jimmy Don Brock’s legacy lives on through the many lives he touched—as an educator, mentor, community leader, friend—and most importantly as a devoted father and grandfather. May his memory bring comfort to those who knew him.
