Jimmy Don Wagster, 79, of Amarillo, Texas, went to be with the Lord on June 15, 2026. He spent his final days being cared for at Ussery-Roan Texas State Veteran Home. He was born in Rector, Arkansas, on March 23, 1947, to Donald Warren Wagster and Ola Jewel “Dollie” Wagster. He attended Arkansas State University and joined the United States Marine Corps after receiving his draft notice for the Army. Jim attended a language School in Monterey, California, for six months to learn Vietnamese, going on to serve in Vietnam, where he was a ground interpreter for his battalion from 1967-1968.
Jim had several careers over the years, from salesman to route delivery driver to warehouse manager; however, his true passion was refinishing antique furniture, lovingly spending hours in his woodshop, patiently going through all of the steps to take something from nearly trash to heirloom status.
He was infinitely patient, gentle, kind, and loving, giving advice only if asked. He was beloved by all who knew him.
Jim is survived by his daughters Carrie Huckabay of Amarillo and husband Nolan and Emily Faulkner of Wolfforth and husband C.W.; sister Rhonda Cleaves of Frisco; grandchildren Ethan Huckabay and wife Kallie, Aaron Huckabay, Brenna Faulkner, Joseph Faulkner, Carly Faulkner, Sofia Faulkner, Ava Faulkner and Lea Faulkner, and a great-granddaughter, Parker Leigh Huckabay.
The memorial service will be at 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 19, 2026, at First Baptist Church, 1208 S. Tyler. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
