Jo McClure Hampton passed away peacefully on November 16, 2025 in Amarillo, TX. She was born Willie Jo McClure on December 11, 1930 in Milford, TX to Lon Carl & Willie Lee (Drake) McClure. She was the 10th of 10 children and adored her siblings.
In high school, Jo played basketball and enjoyed watching basketball throughout her life. She was the Valedictorian of her senior class and voted Most Popular. Achievements that were very meaningful to her.
Jo met the love of her life, Jesse Wayne Hampton, in Lubbock, TX when they were both working for Pioneer Natural Gas Company. They were married on May 4, 1957, and had one son, Jarvis Wayne Hampton. Both Jesse and Jo took great delight in Jarvis and provided him with a wonderful childhood. Jo greatly enjoyed Jarvis’s friends as he was growing up, and became like a second mother to some.
The family left Lubbock and spent one year in Littleton, CO. While there, Jo enjoyed having visitors come to town and taking them all over Colorado to see the sights.
After their year in Colorado, Jesse, Jo and Jarvis made their home in Amarillo, TX. Jo worked at High Plains Canvas, followed by the VA Hospital, and finally the USDA in Bushland where she retired.
Jo was an active member of Polk Street United Methodist Church for many years and was a member of the Home Builders Sunday School class. She was known to be a great cook and deeply loved preparing all meals, especially holiday meals, for her family.
Jo was preceded in death by her loving husband, her parents, and her siblings.
She is survived by her son Jarvis (Nancy) Hampton, grandson Zachary Hampton (Vanessa, Ashlyn & Avery Hill), granddaughter Allison Hampton, great-grandson Cooper Hampton, step-granddaughter Kristen (John David) Terry, step-granddaughter Shannon (Nathan) Hamilton, step-grandson Logan (Teagan) Giles, step-great-granddaughters Evelyn, Charlotte & Kathleen Terry, step-great-grandson Kenton Giles, and sister-in-law Iantha Stevens. She also leaves many beloved nieces and nephews that she cherished greatly.
Visitation will be from 5:30-7:00 PM, Thursday, November 20, 2025 at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home, 2800 Paramount. Funeral service will be at 2:00 PM, Friday, November 21, 2025 at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel. Interment will follow in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
