Joe Henry Aguayo, known as “Joey”, passed away on May 17, 2026, at the age of 56. Joey was born on September 18, 1969, in Hereford Texas to Olga Perez and Jorge Aguayo Sr. Joey made his home in Amarillo, where he was known and loved by many.
Joey was known for his vibrant purple hair, quick sense of humor, and generous spirit. A natural jokester with a big personality, he could make people laugh wherever he went. He was also a talented handyman who could fix just about anything. Joey worked as a tow truck driver and truly enjoyed his career, taking pride in helping others.
Joey loved spending time with his friends, especially during Tuesday night dart games, where his laughter and sense of humor made every gathering memorable. Whether he was joking around, lending a helping hand, or simply enjoying the company of those he loved, Joey brought warmth and joy to the people around him.
Above all, Joey cherished his family. He is survived by his loving wife, Tammy; Father, Pedro Cantu Jr.; his children, Scotty(Celeste), Christopher(Starr), Mandy, Abby(Tanner); and his beloved dog, Chicka. He also leaves behind his siblings, Nilda(Benito) Mejia, Joann(Noel) Vera, Jorge Aguayo Jr., and Georgette Aguayo; Nieces, Aja Diaz and Demi Aguayo; Nephew, Caleb Balderaz; sister-in-law, Linda Garza, ten grandchildren, along with many extended family members and friends who will deeply miss him.
Joey was preceded in death by his mother, Olga Cantu,; his father, Jorge Aguayo Sr.; and wife, Diana Aguayo. He was also preceded in death by his grandparents, Maria and Paul Estrada, Daniel Perez Sr., and Marcelino and Cruz Aguayo; his brother, Jesse Garza Sr.; cousins, John David Soto and Mario Rodriguez; and great-nephew, Alexander Jace.
Joey’s laughter, kindness, and unforgettable spirit will remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved him. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
Viewing will be available from 10:00 A.M. – 8:00 P.M., Thursday, May 21, 2026, at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home. Services will be at 10:00 A.M., Friday, May 22, 2026, in the Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
