Our beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Joe Goodwin, passed away peacefully on November 3, 2025 in El Paso, Texas at the age of 91 years young surrounded by his devoted daughter and caregivers. Joe was born in Borger, Texas on May 24,1934 to Aaron "Goodie" Goodwin and Paula Anna Earl, the second of six children. His youth was spent in many Panhandle communities – Dumas, Texhoma, and Canadian. He was a gifted athlete, especially in basketball, which earned him a scholarship to Frank Phillips College after he graduated from Borger High School. Joe met the love of his life, Phyllis Crupper, at Frank Phillips and they were married for 63 years before her death in 2016. After graduating from Texas Tech University, Joe accepted a position with Levi Strauss & Company, where he worked for his entire professional career advancing from a warehouse manager to the national distribution manager for jeanswear in Amarillo, Texas, Florence, Kentucky and Henderson, Nevada until his retirement. In each location, Joe was active in the communities, serving on many non-profit boards and was honored as a Kentucky Colonel during his time in Florence, Kentucky.
Joe and Phyllis returned to Amarillo, Texas after his retirement and enjoyed golfing and socializing at Tascosa Country Club with their friends and family. He relocated to El Paso, Texas to be closer to his daughter in 2019. Joe had many “loves” – gardening, Texas Tech athletics, betting on the ponies, gambling in Las Vegas, smoking his cigars and doting on his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was quite the strong guy, having survived pancreatic cancer and many heart operations during his lifetime. We will miss him terribly, especially his quick wit and “Joeisms”.
He is survived by his daughter, Sue Goodwin Anderson, grandchildren Blake Anderson (Nicole) and Lindsay Anderson (Amanda) and great-grandchildren, Ava, Claire and Rivers Anderson as well as his sister, Judy Reid of Houston and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Phyllis Crupper Goodwin, parents “Goodie” Goodwin and Paula Earl Goodwin, brothers Bill Goodwin, Jerry Goodwin, Ronald Goodwin, and sister, Marilyn Goodwin Steding.
Our heartfelt appreciation goes to his precious caregivers – Patricia Soto, Socorro Zuniga, Alexandra Wells, Aurora Rivera and Elizabeth Santos.
A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 21, 2025 at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount. Interment will follow in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity in his memory.
