Joe Richard Hendrick

Joe Richard Hendrick, 69, of Amarillo, Texas has gone to be with our Lord and Savior on May 17, 2022, surrounded by his family and loving wife, Terry Nan, by his side. He married Terry Simms on September 7, 1991, in Amarillo, TX. Joe loved to joke that his 30 years with Terry “felt like 30 minutes…..under water.”

A celebration of his life will be held on Saturday, May 21, 2022, at 10:30 a.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2525 Wimberly Rd, Amarillo, Texas with Reverend Will Esler officiating. The family would love for those that can to wear Hawaiian attire in honor of Joe. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Joe was born to Greg and Ruth Hendrick in Dalhart, Texas on March 14, 1953. He grew up in Amarillo with his “baby titter, Lonnie Gae,” and attended Caprock High School where he was a cheerleader for two years. Joe went on to Amarillo College and then Texas State Technical Institute. He worked for Pantex as a guard and won multiple awards for marksmanship. He worked at KVII for many years in their creative department where he wrote, filmed, and voiced various commercials until his retirement.

Joe was a gifted man with countless talents and abilities. He was an incredible artist and if you were fortunate to have him draw your caricature, you were one special person. He was a versatile musician and played in several local bands, finishing his career with The Average Joes. He never forgot a joke and was always the hit of the party with his quick wit and humor. Joe loved the Chicago Cubs, crazy socks, and a good Hawaiian shirt. He was active in his yard and called it “working the land.” Joe had a good heart and was accepting of others and a wonderful friend to all. He loved and was very proud of his two children, Jason and Melissa.

Those left to cherish his memory are wife Terry Nan, mother Ruth, sister Gae and husband Dennis, son Jason and wife Delisa, daughter Melissa and husband Deron, grandchildren Chase, Caige and wife Makayla, Macy, Cameron, Connor, Kyson, and KJ, great-granddaughter Layla Ann, and many nieces and nephews, in-laws Sherry, Tim and wife Tonya, Tom and wife Leslie. Joe was preceded in death by his father, Greg Hendrick. He will be greatly missed by his two puppies, Fidget and Dido, who are lost without him.

A special thanks to Dr. Tumula and the entire staff at Texas Oncology, Kindred Hospice and their exceptional team of caregivers, and all of his amazing PCM nurses, especially Joe’s “Precious,” the excellent Kelli Harris. Joe loved you dearly.

Joe left behind a lot of stuff that his wife has no idea what to do with!

The family requests donations in honor of Joe be made to Westminster Presbyterian Church, SPCA, Wounded Warrior Project, Texas Oncology PCCF Foundation, or a charity of your choosing.
