John "Shorty" Meeks Jenkins

John Meeks Jenkins, aka, “Shorty,” age 77, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away on March 9, 2026.

His memorial service will be at 3:00 pm, Wednesday, March 18th, 2026 at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.

John was born on November 16, 1948, in Amarillo, Texas, to William R. Jenkins and his wife, Sue.

His first marriage was to Glenna Carlen from 1971 to 1981.

His second marriage was to Sandra McCaslin on July 6, 1985. Even though his families were separated they always got along beautifully when they were together.

John was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather (affectionately called “Oldman” by his grandchildren). He was dedicated to his career as an architect for 50 years. John found great joy in cooking, and spending time in his happy place, (the Palo Duro Club) hosting family and friends. He had passion for woodworking, especially crafting furniture for his grandchildren. He was a whimsical man, full of wisdom and warmth.

He is survived by his wife, Sandra, his brother, Bill Jenkins; his daughters Jennifer Carter and husband Robert, Julie May and husband Matthew; stepdaughters Amy Hand and husband Josh, Roxanne Myers and husband Brian. Grandchildren Hunter Hall, Dakota Myers, Hadleigh Hall, Haylen Hughes and husband Darrin, BriAnna Myers, Bo Carter, Brody Carter, Zoe Carter, McKinley May, Kingsley May, Landry May. Great-grandchildren, and extended family who will cherish his memory and the love he shared so generously.

Rest in peace, Shorty. Your family and friends will miss your spirit, your stories, and the joy you brought to every gathering.
