Joseph “Joe” Frank Mains

went home to be with the Lord on June 13, 2023, at the home he shared with wife, Lorraine, in Amarillo, Texas.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 P.M. – 7:00 P.M., Thursday, June 15, 2023, at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Friday, June 16, 2023, at First Presbyterian Church in Amarillo, Texas. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, Amarillo.

Joe was born to Alva and Virginia Menaugh Mains on September 20, 1933, in Dubois, Idaho. He attended Iona High School in Iona, Idaho before enlisting in the United States Navy at the age of 17.  He served on the aircraft carrier, The Bon Homme Richard, and worked in the electronic counter measures.  He was involved in 6 major battles during the Korean War and served near the North Korean coast.  Joe and all 4 of his brothers served in the military.

Joe worked for the Beneficial Corporation and HSBC for over 20 years

He was preceded in death by his mother and father; his four brothers, Lloyd Mains, Blaine Mains, Everett Mains, and Jim Mains; and his daughter, Sherry Ziegler.

He is survived by his loving wife, Lorraine; his children, Gerry Mains and wife Dinah, Bill Mains, Jeanee Marler, Tami Owen and wife Patricia Watts, Chad Bonds and wife Suzanne, and Derrick Bonds and wife Amber; and two sisters Olive Jones and Betty Christensen. Joe is also survived by thirteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

The family would like to thank Dr. Reddy and the staff at Texas Oncology and BSA Hospice of the Southwest.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation to First Presbyterian Church in Amarillo, Texas.
