JT Petersen, 47, devoted husband, father, family man, and true lover of wide-open spaces, passed away January 13, 2026 surrounded by love. He lived life grounded in what mattered most to him: his family, the ranch, the mountains, and Rosie, his beloved “poo poos,” who unquestionably ruled his heart.
JT was a nurse for Dr. Thane Morgan for 25 years, a role he took great pride in. He cared for others with quiet competence, loyalty, and a steady presence that put people at ease. To many, he was far more than a nurse. He was a constant and trusted part of their lives.
He was happiest where the land stretched wide and the air was clear. The ranch was not just a place to JT. It was part of who he was. The mountains were his refuge, his reset button, and his reminder that some things are bigger than all of us. His family, however, was his greatest pride and his true north.
Then there was Rosie. Anyone who knew JT knew that Rosie held a very special, non-negotiable place in his world. She was spoiled, adored, and loved fiercely, just the way he loved the people in his life.
JT is preceded in death by his father, Tom Petersen, and his sister, Katie Green.
He is survived by his wife, Jennifer Petersen; his sons, Parker Petersen and his fiancée Brendi Green, and Grey Petersen; his mother and her husband, Stephanie and Mike Moss; his brother Dirk Petersen and wife Dusty; his brother-in-law Scott Green and wife Dee Dee; his father and mother-in-law Dale and Vicki Scarberry; his brother and sister-in-law John Scarberry and Lindsay; and his nieces and nephews Bailey Petersen, Hayes Green, McCay Deaver, Landon Petersen, Paityn Rogers, Barrett Dyer, and Quinton Dyer.
There is not enough room here to list the many friends who meant so much to JT, but they know who they are and how deeply he valued them.
The family would like to honor and thank the remarkable doctors, nurses, and caregivers who walked with JT on his journey. With deep gratitude, we thank Dr. Milan Patel and Dr. Daniel Arsenault and the wonderful staff at Harrington Cancer Center; Dr. Susanna Ulahannan and her team at OU Health Stephenson Cancer Center ; and the staff at BSA Hospice of the Southwest, especially D’ Dee and the team of angels who cared for him so tenderly. We felt held, supported, and deeply loved by each of you.
Visitation will be held Friday, January 16, 2026 from 6:00-8:30 p.m. at 1202 Herring Ranch Road. Memorial service will be at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 17, 2026 at Hillside Christian Church Chapel, 6100 S. Soncy. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
In JT’s honor, take a moment to step outside, breathe deeply, love your people fiercely, and if there is a dog nearby, give it an extra hug. JT would absolutely approve.
