Juan Carrillo

June 24, 1934 — September 12, 2026

Juan Arzate Carrillo, 91, of Hereford, Texas, passed away on June 12, 2026, surrounded by all his children and loving family.

Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, June 17, 2026 at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount Blvd. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, Amarillo.

Juan was born in Aldama, Chihuahua, Mexico on June 24, 1934 to Gumersindo Carrillo and Manuela Arzate.

Juan was a devoted provider, so much so he made the choice to join The Bracero Program in the U.S. in 1952 at the tender age of 18. In 1970, he made the courageous choice to bring his family with him and they settled in Alpine, TX. Juan was a rancher for most of his life. He was the sole provider for his wife and 9 children for many years. He was a man of hard work, there wasn’t a job he wasn’t able to complete. Juan was a jokester, no matter the situation he was sure to make a joke. He was the grandfather to 40 plus grandchildren to which he came up with nicknames for everyone. A language barrier was always present but the love Juan radiated never lacked.

He will be greatly missed but we rejoice in knowing that because of his recent decision to dedicate his life back to the Lord, he is now in the Kingdom of Heaven.

Juan is preceded in death by son, Jesse Carrillo of Amarillo, TX; parents, Gumersindo Garcia Carrillo and Manuela Arzate Carrillo; brother, Gumersindo “Chindo” Carrillo of Hereford, TX; nephew, Danny Carrillo of Hereford, TX; granddaughter Wrenley Isabelle Chesley of Amarillo, TX.

He is survived by his wife, Cruz Carrillo of Hereford, TX; his brothers, Andres and spouse Maria Carrillo of San Angelo, Tx and Felipe and spouse Luz Maria Carrillo of Chihuahua; his children, Raymond Carrillo of Hereford, TX, Herbert Carrillo of South Texas, Lupe and spouse Eddie Gonzales of Lubbock, TX, Vicky Lucio, Irma and spouse Brantley Pace, and Yvonne and spouse Josh McKee all of Amarillo, TX, John Carrillo and Corine Carrillo of Fort Worth, TX.
