June Stewart, 73, of Amarillo passed away on Tuesday, September 24, 2024.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 9, 2024, at 2:00 p.m. at Washington Avenue Christian Church. A private interment will be held in Claude, Texas. An ice cream party will be held immediately following the service per June’s wishes.
June was born in Borger, Texas on June 5, 1951, to Walter and Margaret Stinsman. She was a self-employed hairdresser for over 35 years. She was known for her dedication to her long-term clients and as they aged, she would provide rides to and from the salon for their weekly up-dos. June loved spending time and talking with her friends and family, bringing smiles and laughter to everyone that encountered her. After her passing, friends have commented on how they will miss her sense of humor, beautiful smile and the wonderful sound of her laughter.
Her grandkids were her everything and she dedicated many years to providing them with all the snacks and gifts they could ever want. Her greatest joys were spending time baking, watching movies and playing games with them. They will miss all the late-night phone calls to talk about the latest TV shows and movies. Addy will miss spending many hours helping June tend to her hair, makeup and nails because even in the days she couldn't get out much she still wanted to look her best every day.
Before she was Grandma, she was fun Aunt June to her nephews David, Ty, Craig, Ben and James and nieces Jennifer and Kristina. She was filled with so much joy when her great-niece, Mattie June, was named after her.
June was a devoted Christian and spent many years attending Washington Avenue Christian Church and Highland Christian Church. When mobility prevented her from attending church services, she would watch online sermons as well as read her Bible devotionals. June was known to tape notes of scripture and words of encouragement all around her house for herself and visitors.
She was preceded in death by her husband Dennis, her parents, her sisters Suz Beth Miller and Kay Shelton and her nephew Craig Miller.
Survivors include her daughters Julia Fannin and husband Dan of Austin, Amy Flores of Amarillo; her four grandchildren Avery and Addison Flores and Braden and Kyra Fannin; brother Lee Stinsman and wife Melody of Amarillo; nephews David Miller (Cheri), Ty Shelton (Kim), Benjamin Stinsman (Elizabeth) and James Stinsman (Morganne); nieces Jennifer Stewart and Kristina Miller and her great-nieces Emma Lee and Mattie June Stinsman.
The family wish to express their deepest gratitude for June’s care for the last 8 months at Heritage Convalescent Center. We appreciate all the staff who got her sense of humor.
We miss her so much every day, but we know that she has happily reunited with her Den Den in Heaven and one day we will reunite with them as well.
“Come to me all you who are weary and burdened and I will give you rest.” Matthew 11:28.
