Lavan June Lanham

November 22, 1933 — May 5, 2025

Amarillo

June Lanham was a loved mom and grandma. She lived 91 years on this earth and is in Heaven now with so many of her family and friends who have been waiting for her to join them.

She was born in Jester, Oklahoma, and lived on a farm there until her mom got a job in Washburn, Texas, as a teacher. They ended up in Pampa before too long and she graduated from Pampa High School. She has a younger brother, Kent Bowers, who lives in Ft. Worth, who was four when she moved to Amarillo to attend the Business College. She worked at Walsh Food and at the Air Base where she met a handsome West Virginia boy named Tom who gave up his dream to move to Alaska to stay in Texas and marry her. They had 50 wonderful years together and had one daughter, Misty Dawn Pierce.

The family spent a lot of time in the mountains of New Mexico and Colorado. They also traveled back to West Virginia every year to visit Tom’s folks and stopped to see the many interesting places on the roads from here to there as well as locations westward. They had a lot of adventures and fun on their trips.

June loved gardening and crocheting - she was a wonderful painter and loved color and crafts and passed these artistic leanings down to her daughter and granddaughters, Penelope Ellis and Kara Dyer, and her great-grandchildren.

She was a prayer warrior and was always thinking about and caring for others. She took care of her grandmother and mother as they reached the age where they needed that care. She never thought of herself as someone who accomplished much, but I’m here to testify that she did indeed. Her relationship with my dad set the stage for my own marriage and their parenting gave me the groundwork for my parenting, which laid the groundwork for her granddaughters.

We were so blessed to have her in our lives - to have her praying for us, caring for us, and loving us. Life wasn’t always perfect, but it was good. She is celebrating with Jesus now!

The graveside service will be held on Friday, May 9, 2025, at 2 p.m. at Llano Cemetery East.
