Lonnie D. Brock

Lonnie D Brock stepped into Heaven in the presence of his Savior on Tuesday afternoon, September 22, 2026.

Family will receive friends from 2-3:00 PM, Sunday, September 27, 2026 at Boxwell Brothers Funeral Home, 2800 Paramount. Funeral service will be at 2:00 PM, Monday, September 28, 2026 at Coulter Road Baptist Church. Interment will follow in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.

Born at home in Aubrey, TX on July 31, 1932 to James I. and Kalmia Brock. The youngest of 6, Lonnie had many stories of growing up in small towns across Texas, before moving to Amarillo at 11 years of age.

Lonnie graduated from Amarillo High School in the class of 1951. He served in the Air Force with the 3750th Technical Training Group at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, where he was a flight mechanic on the B-26.

September 4, 1954, Lonnie married Avis Hatchett. There was always a twinkle in his eyes when he spoke of how they met, their courtship, and wedding day. Within their first year of marriage Lonnie and Avis took a deep dive into parenthood by taking guardianship of Lonnie’s two nieces, Wanona and Zona. Life with these girls was an adventure through Jr High and High School, until they each married.

1959 brought the birth of Regina. Sherri came along 25 months later, and Michael made the exclamation mark a short 17 months following. What a gift of family!

So many meals around the table, bowls of banana pudding, and games played well into the night. Travel near and far, making countless shared memories. Lonnie and Avis celebrated 72 years of marriage on September 4, 2026 with a small gathering of 4 generations.

Lonnie was a salesman from an early age, beginning with paper routes through High School. He sold appliances at Whites Auto Store for 17 years. He owned a Pizza Inn Franchise, sold cars at Plains Chevrolet, helped start C&B Printing and was a salesman there as well. He was a respected store manager at Cook Paint & Varnish and later Tascosa Paint & Supply.

A salesman, though he was never “salesy”.

Faith was the foundation of Lonnie’s life. Avis and Lonnie joined Coulter Road Baptist church on April 6, of 1981, where they continue to serve and worship. Lonnie served as a deacon, a Bible Study teacher, he sang in the choir, and served 16 years at Prairie View Chapel in multiple leadership roles. Lonnie also ran the printshop at Coulter Road for several years in the 1990s.

Mission trips to the border and to Florida with the youth were highlights and treasured memories. Lonnie was also a Gideon - he wanted everyone to have the opportunity to know Jesus personally!

Lonnie is survived by his devoted wife of 72 years 18 days, Avis Hatchett Brock; three children: Regina & Bob Fancher, Sherri Davis, and Michael “Mike” Brock; eight grandchildren: Loni Fancher, Dustin & Julie Fancher, Jonathan & Bethany Davis, Tara & Rick Lange, Jessica & Charles Kilborn, Elizabeth & Justin Blue, Rebecca & Matt Adkins, James & Abby Brock; and eight great-grandchildren: Jaren Davis, Evan Capehart, Amaya Davis, Amelia Kilborn, Evelyn Blue, Nolan Blue, Lennon Brock and Eleanor Kilborn; numerous nieces and nephews and so many other “adopteds” scattered near and far.

Lonnie is predeceased by his parents: James I. Brock, Kalmia Brock; brothers: J.C. Brock, Pat Brock, and Lewis Brock; sisters: Nadine Moore, and Marie Allen; nieces: Wanona Garris, and Zona Denton; and beloved children-in-love, Jeff Davis and Tammy Brock.
