Lorrayne Vogel was born on the family farm in North-eastern North Dakota on May 9, 1928, to Art and Alvilde Tollefson. She grew up during the great depression and learned the value of hard work and thrift. She attended country school for her first 8 years, and for about 5 months out of the year they traveled by horse and sleigh. In high school, she had a sleeping room in town and would prepare her meals on a hot plate. After graduation, she moved to Fargo, ND, and attended school there, later moving to Minneapolis, MN, to further her career. She met Bob Vogel while a senior at NDSU, they were married in a little army chapel at Camp Crowder, MO, in 1952. Bob was a career army officer.

Lorrayne became very active in her role as an army wife; she was a Red Cross Gray Lady in the post hospitals where ever they were stationed, among her many other duties. Lorrayne was proudest of being the founder of Schilling Manor Home of the Waiting Wives, where she negotiated with the powers that be to utilize the vacant housing at a closed Air Force base for those families whose husbands were deployed to Vietnam. This created homes for over 7500 families. She also obtained all the support services needed to accommodate the families, a commissary, medical dispensary, ambulance, chaplin to name a few.

Lorrayne was well traveled; she lived in 11 different states and visited 27 foreign countries. While living in Alaska, she was one of the first women Realtors in the state. Lorrayne enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling, water, and snow skiing, and most of all, golf. Lorrayne was proud of her Norwegian heritage.

Lorrayne and Bob loved to travel in their motor home, and were charter members of The Caprock Crusiers.

After Bob’s retirement, they moved to Texas, and Lorrayne opened her Real Estate Brokerage office on Georgia St. She held several offices with the Amarillo Association of Realtors and received many professional awards throughout her career, which lasted over 50 years. She was active in her business, managing her investments well into her 90’s.

Lorrayne was preceded in death by her parents, Art and Alvilde Tollefson; her husband, Bob; sister, Joyce Hammond; and brothers, Duane and Donald Tollefson.

She is survived by sons, Robert D. Vogel, and Terry and wife Kyle Vogel; granddaughters, Bethany Vogel, and Ginger and husband Cole Koumalats; great-grandchildren, Quincy and Ryker Koumalats; and several nieces and nephews.
