Lou Nell Kite Marcear

Lou Nell Kite Marcear, 84, passed away on Monday, September 21, 2026, in Amarillo, Texas. Lou Nell was born on July 2, 1942, in Sulphur Springs, Texas, to Haun and Neva Kite. She grew up in East Texas, graduated from Mount Vernon High School in 1960, and went on to attend Abilene Christian College.

Lou Nell met Dick Marcear one summer at a Christian camp in East Texas, where her father was the song leader and Dick was working as an intern. It was love at first sight for Dick. Lou Nell was in a committed relationship at the time, but Dick remained steadfast, and in time his persistence and devotion won her heart. They were married in June 1962 at the Silverton Church of Christ in Silverton, Texas, where her father was the preacher, and he officiated the ceremony. Together they began a lifelong journey that spanned 63 years, until Dick’s passing earlier this year.

Their love never faded. Earlier this year, when both Dick and Lou Nell had grown frail and were having a hard time getting around, Lou Nell asked to be wheeled over to Dick, and she climbed into bed beside him. As they held each other, Dick lovingly told her that from the first moment he set eyes on her, he was smitten. He had loved her at first sight, and he had been in love with her ever since.

Lou Nell devoted her life to her family as a wonderful homemaker. She made their home a place of warmth, faith, and welcome, and she took great joy in caring for Dick, raising Rick and D’Nan, and loving her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Lou Nell truly loved the Lord. A preacher’s daughter who became a minister’s wife, she spent her life in service to Him and to His church. She was a faithful member of the Church of Christ at the Colonies, where she served alongside Dick as the minister’s wife. Hospitality was her God-given gift. Together with Dick, she led the new members class, and she and Dick faithfully welcomed every new member into their home, so no one stayed a stranger for long. An incredible artist, she also helped paint the animals on the walls of the church’s children’s area, a labor of love that will keep delighting little ones for years to come. She loved to cook, garden, sew, sing, and read. Few people left her home without a full plate, a kind word, and the feeling that they belonged.

In her final season of life, the care she had given so freely was returned to her. Her daughter, D’Nan, stayed faithfully by her side, and her son, Rick, was attentive to her needs and always there to help.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Haun and Neva Kite, and her husband of 63 years, Dick Marcear.

Lou Nell is survived by her son, Rick Marcear, and his wife, Darla; her daughter, D’Nan Marcear Scott, and her husband, Madison; her grandsons, Hunter Scott and Sam Marcear and his wife, Faith; her granddaughters, Millie Thompson and her husband, Jacob, and Mary-Claire Leigh-Manuell and her husband, Triston; her great-granddaughters, Bonnie and Lottie; her sisters, Dayna Hooper and her husband, Dan, of Olney, Texas, and Joy Crass and her husband, Bob, of the Fort Worth area; and many nieces, nephews, and dear friends.

She leaves behind a legacy of faith, love, and encouragement that will keep inspiring generations to come.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, at the Church of Christ at the Colonies in Amarillo, with Tony Freeman and Madison Scott officiating. Burial will be private. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.

The family is deeply grateful to the Church of Christ at the Colonies for the love and kindness they showed Dick and Lou Nell over the years. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Church of Christ at the Colonies.
