Lucille "Nikki" (Nicholson) Gatlin

June 24, 1921 — February 14, 2026

Florine “Nikki “ (Nicholson) Gatlin, 104, born on a farm west of Pampa, Texas, to Russell and Mae Nicholson, passed away February 14, 2026.

Nikki was raised in White Deer. Graduated from White Deer High School in 1939; and received her advanced education in Canyon. She lived for over fifty years in Amarillo. Married to George Gatlin until his passing in 2021.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her sister Roberta (Wilson) Williams; two brothers Donald Nicholson and Leon Nicholson. She is survived by many beloved family members.

Nikki taught elementary school in several Panhandle towns, including Panhandle, Perryton, Spearman, Gruver and Amarillo. One of her joys was hearing from former students.

Nikki was a tireless volunteer. She served for ten years in various roles, including board president and Executive Director, at Martha’s Home in Amarillo. She served as secretary of the Amarillo Classroom Teachers Association; President of Amarillo Retired Teachers; and President for two years of the Amarillo Knife and Fork Club.

She was elected as a Representative from the Panhandle to the Silver-Haired Legislature for ten years. She served for five years as a representative in the National Silver-Haired Congress of the 13th Congressional District of Texas, going to Washington, D.C. for annual sessions.

She and George belonged to San Jacinto United Methodist Church, later transferring to Trinity United Methodist Church. They belonged also to the Amarillo Golden K Kiwanis club where they both served as President.

They were honored to receive the Seven Who Care award.

Her family would like to extend a heartfelt thanks to the remarkable staffs of the Beehive Homes and Enhabit Hospice who provided loving care during the final years of her life.

The family recommends that remembrances be considered in Nikki’s memory to Martha’s Home of Amarillo.

Graveside Services to be held at a later date at the White Deer Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
