LuNette C. Evetts

June 6, 1941 — January 20, 2026

LuNette Evetts went to be with her Lord on January 20, 2026. She was 84. She lived a life marked by dedication to education, faith, family, and service to her community.

LuNette was born in Perryton, Texas on June 6, 1941, to Euritha Henry Castle and Virgil Ray Castle. She graduated from Perryton High School in 1959, earned her Bachelor of Business Administration in Economics from Baylor University in 1963, and completed a Master of Science in Economics at Baylor University in 1966. She later completed a Master of Arts in History at West Texas State University. She married Robert Craig Evetts on June 18, 1966, in Perryton, Texas. Following Craig’s military service, they made their home in Amarillo, where they lived for more than 40 years and they raised two sons and several dogs.

Her professional career reflected her passion for learning and teaching. She first taught at a parochial school in Colón, Republic of Panama, where Craig was stationed while serving in the U.S. Army. After relocating to Amarillo, she taught economics and history at Palo Duro High School and Tascosa High School and later served as a Professor of History at Amarillo College for several decades until her retirement.

LuNette was deeply involved in her church and community. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Amarillo, where she dedicated herself to children’s ministry as a teacher for decades. LuNette also served for many years on the Board of Trustees for the Presbyterian Home for Children, now known as the Amarillo Children’s Home. Following retirement from Amarillo College, she and Craig enjoyed traveling all over the world, going to symphony concerts and playing bridge with their close friends. She was a devoted mother to her two sons and daughters-in-law, and an incredibly proud grandmother of five grandchildren. LuNette loved attending her grandkids’ sporting events, band performances and concerts. And she absolutely adored her grand dogs.

She is preceded in death by her parents.

Survivors include her husband, Robert Craig Evetts of Plano; her two sons and their wives, Keith Evetts and Sarah Westbrook Evetts of Plano, and Jim Evetts and Theresa DeMatteis Evetts of Sachse; her grandchildren, Kirk, Molly, Kaylie, Claire and Colson Evetts; her brother and sister-in-law, Ray and Rita Castle of Perryton; and a host of nieces, cousins and dear friends.

The family would like to thank the staff at Brookdale Collin Oaks and Sovereign Hospice for surrounding LuNette with love, support and compassionate care.

A service to celebrate LuNette’s life will be held on Wednesday, January 28, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount, Amarillo, TX.
