Manuel “Toby” Tobias, 84, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away on October 7, 2026.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, October 13, 2026, at Family Life Church, 3900 SW 58th Avenue, Amarillo, Texas. Please wear your favorite baseball cap in honor of Toby. Inurnment will follow at 3:30 p.m. at Dumas Cemetery in Dumas, Texas. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
Toby was born September 8, 1942, in Scott City, Kansas, to Isaac R. Tobias Jr. and Elodia N. “Lola” Nevarez. He graduated from Dumas High School and went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Army. After 10 years of service, he retired from the military and began a career as a mechanic with Phillips 66/Duke Energy.
On November 7, 1964, Toby married Patricia “Bitsy” Faye Hager in Dumas, Texas. They shared 51 years of marriage until her passing in 2015. Toby later married Vickie B. Morgan on August 12, 2017. He welcomed Vickie’s children and grandchildren as his own and loved them deeply.
Above all, Toby loved his family. He was a proud American who held God, family, and country close to his heart. He ended each prayer with the words, “Keep Texas Red.”
Toby was a devoted member of Family Life Church, where he looked forward each week to serving as a door holder.
If you knew Toby, you knew that he was never far from a baseball field. He served as a Little League district administrator from 1974 to 2008 and began umpiring in 1979. He coached Little League baseball and pee-wee football and umpired Little League baseball, high school baseball and softball, junior college baseball, college baseball, and, in the 1970s, the Amarillo Gold Sox. Toby and Vickie were also proud season ticket holders of the Amarillo Sod Poodles from their inaugural season.
Toby had a servant’s heart and was always willing to help others. He would give the shirt off his back without ever wanting recognition or credit. Throughout his life, he became a father figure to many of his nieces, nephews, and the young people he encountered on the baseball field. His generosity, guidance, and love touched countless lives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Patricia “Bitsy” Faye Hager Tobias; his son, Toby Tobias; and his brothers, Johnny Tobias, Tony Tobias, and Joe Felix Tobias.
Toby is survived by his wife, Vickie Morgan Tobias; children, Tommy Tobias and wife, Tisha, Trina Tobias, Colby Morgan and wife, Stephanie, and Coresa Ford and husband, Gary Jr.; grandchildren, Joshua Tobias, Jacob Tobias, Bentley Tobias, Jared Morgan, Riley Ford, Chase Ford, Aiden Ford, and Morgan Ford; great-grandchildren, Lynnleigh Tobias and Rory Tobias; sisters, Fran Robbins, Emily Tobias, Josie Peacock, Teresa Eslick, and Ernestina Ruiz; sisters-in-law, Adela Tobias and Teresa Tobias; and numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Toby will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and the many people whose lives he touched through his faith, service, and love for others.
