Marguarite E. McGuire Penix, 96, of Amarillo, Texas passed away on November 17, 2025.

Memorial service will be at 11:00 AM, Friday, November 21st at First Baptist Church, 1208 S. Tyler. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.

Margie was born January 16, 1929 in Fayetteville, Arkansas to Russell and Earmaney James. She was the youngest of four children and grew up on their family farm. She attended a one-room schoolhouse in her early years, then, moved to Fayetteville where she graduated from Fayetteville High School.

Margie married John McGuire on September 26, 1948. John’s career as a football and track coach and later Athletic Director, brought them to Amarillo, TX. John passed away on March 11, 1984. Margie would later marry Charles Penix in 1996.

In 1973, Margie started working as a Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultant. She worked for Mary Kay for over 30 years, becoming a Senior Sales Director, earning several pink cadillacs and gaining a wonderful community of consultants and clients.

She was an active and longtime member of First Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School for many years starting with a Senior Girls Class and then, the Harriet Strimple Class.

Margie loved celebrating all the holidays, spending time with family and friends, and approached life with a spirit of fun and adventure.

She is preceded in death by her husband John McGuire and son, Benjamin McGuire, and Charles Penix; two sisters, Erma Swaim and Juanita Stairs and her brother, Frank “Buddy” James.

Margie is survived by her daughters, Vicki Scivally and husband Gene of Amarillo, TX, and Cindy Barrett and husband Bruce of Muleshoe, TX; stepdaughters, Cindy Rendahl and husband Tim of Whitney, TX and Janice Woodall of Palmer, TX. Margie was both “Bama” and “MeMe” to her five grandchildren and their spouses, John Scivally and wife Nicole, Reid Scivally and wife Erin, Christen (Scivally) Woodburn and husband Tito, James Barrett and wife Melanie, Megan (Barrett) Medina and husband Emmanuel; and nine great-grandchildren, McGuire Scivally, Sam and Sadie Scivally, Kight and Wren Woodburn, Ava and Hudson Barrett, and Micah and Margaret Medina.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Margie’s honor to the First Baptist Church of Amarillo.
