Marilyn Loretta (Stewart) Kirk

Marilyn Loretta (Stewart) Kirk, born September 26, 1935, in Nocona, Texas, to Henry Lee and Flossie Stewart, passed away peacefully on September 4, 2026 in Dimmitt, Texas.

In 1942, Marilyn and her family moved to Tulia, Texas, where her parents operated the City Tailor Shop. She graduated from Tulia High School in 1954 and went on to attend the Isabel Powell School of Hairdressing in Lubbock, Texas. Beginning in 1955, Marilyn worked as a hairdresser in Lubbock, Amarillo, and Tulia until 1968. She had a true gift for her craft and was, as those who knew her would say, a magician when it came to hairdressing.

In 1968, Marilyn met Sam Kirk, and they instantly fell in love. They married that same year. Sam welcomed Marilyn and her three children effortlessly, and together they built a beautiful life in Hereford, Texas.

Marilyn loved to cook and especially enjoyed hosting holidays, filling her home with good food, laughter, and the people she loved most. She also had a deep love for music, particularly hymns and the Chuck Wagon Gang. Marilyn had a beautiful singing voice, one that will remain a treasured memory for her family.

Marilyn was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Lee and Flossie Stewart; her brother, Knox Stewart; her sisters, Elva and Bethene; her husband, Sam Kirk; her sons-in-law, Timmy Sturgess and Ronny Collier; and one grandson, Sean Sturgess.

She leaves behind a loving family who will carry her memory in their hearts: her daughter, Toni Sturgess of Dimmitt; her son, Bill Kirk of Spring Branch, Texas; and her daughter, Lori Collier of Hereford, Texas; along with 10 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.

Marilyn’s legacy lives on through the many lives she touched, the meals she lovingly prepared, the holidays she made special, and the beautiful songs she sang. She will be deeply missed and forever cherished.

The family would like to express appreciation to the staff who became her bonus family at Country View Living in Dimmitt, Texas, whose care was unmatched and will forever be remembered.
