Mark J. Groneman, Sr., 73, of Vega, Texas, died Saturday, August 1, 2026.

Viewing will be available from Noon-5 PM, Monday, August 3, 2026, at Boxwell Brothers of Vega, 110 S. Main St. Rosary will be at 6:00 PM, Monday, August 3, 2026, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Vega, Texas. Mass will be at 10:00 AM, Tuesday, August 4, 2026, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Vega, Texas with Father Mitch Przepiora as celebrant. Burial will be at Memorial Park Cemetery in Vega. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.

Mark was born on February 13, 1953, in Amarillo, Texas, to Willard E. “Bill” Groneman and Leona Spinhirne Groneman. Mark attended Vega High School and graduated in 1971. He then went on to attend West Texas State University.

Mark married Becky Key on July 28, 1979, in Amarillo, Texas. They enjoyed many years of travel.

Mark worked at Owens Corning from 1985 to 2002. He then went to work for the Pantex Plant, retiring in 2023. Mark served the City of Vega, Texas, as the City Alderman for four years and as the Mayor for twenty-eight years. He served as president of Memorial Park Cemetery in Vega for twelve years.

Mark loved gardening. Becky called him a “Frustrated Farmer,” because his garden grew larger each year. He loved working with his hands and always loved being outdoors. He loved decorating the yard at Christmas. Football season found him watching the Dallas Cowboys no matter if they had a hard year. He was always friendly with a smile for everyone.

Mark was a member of Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Vega, Texas where he served as a Lector and a Eucharistic Minister.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Willard E. “Bill” Groneman and Leona Spinhirne Groneman; nephew, Anthony Groneman; mother-in-law, Joye Key; amd brothers-in-law, David Hill and Russell “Buzzy” Jarnigan.

He is survived by his wife, Becky; daughter, Stacy Gjerde and husband Ron, of Amarillo, Texas; daughter, Millie Spicer and husband Richard, of South Fulton, Tennessee; son, Mark Groneman Jr. and wife Mary Dawn, of Amarillo, Texas; seven grandchildren, including Madison Joye Gjerde and Matthew Spencer Gjerde, who shared his love of adventure and fun; brothers, Larry Groneman and wife Vicki, of Vega, Texas, Calvin Groneman and wife Janice, of Vega, Texas, George Groneman and wife Lelia, of Vega, Texas, Willard Groneman and wife Cathy, of Lubbock, Texas, and Frank Groneman and wife Sheila, of Connecticut; and sisters, Joyce Hill, of Lubbock, Texas, Vickie Groneman, of Muleshoe, and Barbara Jarnagin, of Amarillo, Texas.
