Mark Allen Guill

Mark Allen Guill entered the presence of his Savior on August 4, 2026, at the age of 70.

Mark was born on January 19, 1956, in Amarillo, Texas, and grew up in nearby Canyon. It was there that God began writing one of the greatest chapters of his life. The girl who lived next door, Christi “Chris” Prichard, became his best friend during high school. Friendship turned into love, and on August 7, 1977, they were married. Together they built a beautiful life in Amarillo, raising three wonderful children, Casee, Tyra, and Sam, and later welcoming twelve grandchildren who would come to know him simply and lovingly as “Pop.”

For forty years, Mark worked on the railroad, spending twenty years with Santa Fe Railway before serving another twenty years with BNSF Railway as a locomotive engineer. He was dependable and hardworking, and he took pride in doing the job well. The railroad wasn’t always easy, but it allowed Mark to provide a wonderful life for his family, something he considered one of his greatest privileges.

While Mark worked hard, he also knew when to put work aside and enjoy life. Some of his family’s greatest memories were made on the road. Whether they were headed to the mountains of New Mexico and Colorado or driving across the country for a weeks long family vacation, Mark loved taking his family on adventures. He understood that the greatest gifts he could give his family weren’t things. They were experiences. Long drives, mountain hikes, ski runs, campfires, and time together became memories his children and grandchildren would carry with them for the rest of their lives.

One of his favorite places on earth was the family’s cabin in Taos, New Mexico, appropriately named Selah, meaning “Pause and Reflect.” It became exactly that for him. A place to connect with God, gather with family, slow down, and spend time with the people he loved most.

At home, Mark could usually be found in his workshop, tinkering on whatever had caught his attention that day. He simply enjoyed working with his hands. Whether he was fixing something or starting a new project, he was perfectly content spending an afternoon in the shop with classic rock or college radio playing in the background. He also faithfully

carried his Bible with him everywhere and read through it every year. He believed God’s Word was meant to be lived, not simply read. Above all else, his faith in Jesus Christ was the foundation of his life, shaping the way he loved his family, served others, and treated everyone he met.

Mark loved people, and he showed it in the way he cared for those around him. He had a servant’s heart that naturally looked for ways to encourage, celebrate, and care for others, especially the elderly. He gave freely of both his time and his resources, never looking for recognition and never expecting anything in return. If someone had a need, he quietly looked for a way to meet it. If someone stopped by the house, they rarely left without a snack in hand or a few bucks in their pocket. He found genuine joy in helping others and quietly making the lives of those around him a little better.

His greatest earthly love was his wife Chris. From the time they were teenagers living next door to one another until his final days, she was the love of his life. He was her biggest supporter, her “champion”, always putting her needs before his own. Their marriage was a beautiful testimony of faith, friendship, and unconditional love.

Mark and Chris faithfully served wherever God called them. They were longtime members of Paramount Terrace Christian Church and Hillside Christian Church, and later of both Freedom Church and Grace Church. Yet some of Mark’s most meaningful ministry happened behind prison walls. He served as a Chaplain Assistant at the Clements Unit and faithfully volunteered with Kairos Prison Ministry and Kairos Outside Ministry, carrying the hope of the Gospel to men and women who desperately needed to hear it. He took to heart the words of Hebrews 13:3, “Continue to remember those in prison as if you were together with them in prison.”

Mark faithfully followed Christ through every season of life, and today we find comfort in knowing that his faith has become sight. The promise found in James 1:12 gives us hope as we celebrate the life he lived and the eternity he now enjoys:

“Blessed is the one who perseveres under trial because, having stood the test, that person will receive the crown of life that the Lord has promised to those who love Him.”

Mark is survived by his wife, Chris Guill; daughter, Casee May; daughter, Tyra Jesko and husband Scott; son, Sam Guill and wife Emily; grandchildren, Carson Morgan and husband Landon, Aiden Walsh, Gracee Graham and husband Mason, Kynlee Jesko, Charlee May, Coble May, Kaytlee Jesko, Ainsley Guill, Grey Jesko, Aliza Guill, Teagan Farris, and Faye Farris; sister Rue Ann Cox of Midland; brother Bill Guill and wife Angie of Forney; and nieces and nephews, Michelle Cox, Jim Cox, Trent Guill, Scott Guill, Kelly Williams, Amy Marlow, Bailey Guill, Audrey Guill, Jeff Prichard, Julie Prichard, Jacob Prichard, Greg Prichard, Matt Prichard, and Mark Prichard.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Russell and Clarice Guill; brother, Don Guill: and son-in-law, Jeb May.

A celebration of Mark’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, August 14, 2026, at Freedom Bible Church, 900 Alta Vista St, Amarillo, TX 79106. A private family burial will be held on Monday, August 10, 2026, at Llano Estacado Cemetery.

If Mark could leave us with one final reminder, it would be the simple words he shared so often and lived so faithfully. Words we can almost hear him saying with that familiar smile…

“Y’all be nice to each other.”

If we do, we’ll honor the life of a man who spent seventy years showing us exactly what that looks like.
