Mary Catherine Troxell

December 21, 1936 — November 4, 2025

Amarillo

Mary Catherine Troxell, 88, of Amarillo, Texas, passed away unexpectedly surrounded by her family on November 4, 2025. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a sweet, loving, and devoted woman whose gentleness and kindness affected all who knew her. She dedicated her life to her family and friends and enjoyed making memories with everything she did. Worrying about you was her love language and her family and friends were her greatest worry.

Mary was born December 21, 1936 in Shamrock, Texas to William F. and Nannie Setzler. She graduated from Shamrock High School in 1955. She graduated from Texas Tech in 1960 with a Bachelor of Science in Education. Mary married her high school sweetheart, Bobby Wayne Troxell on July 15, 1960 in Amarillo following her graduation from Texas Tech.

They celebrated over 65 years of marriage before she passed away. Mary and Bobby have two sons Bobby Scot and Bryan Wayne, whom she doted on until her passing.

Mary was an adored and valued elementary school teacher for Amarillo ISD for 37 years before retiring. Mary was a member of PEO Amarillo Chapter AI. Mary influenced the lives of many children throughout her years as an educator and focused on loving each child individually. She taught at Humphey’s Highland Elementary and Avondale Elementary.

During her years of teaching, she developed special relationships with her teacher friends and even continued to mentor the younger teachers after her retirement. Up until her passing, she continued to meet with her friends for weekly lunch dates, birthday club dinners, and any other time the group just wanted to get together. In addition to teaching, Mary enjoyed shopping at Dillards, decorating her home, and bragging about her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She was so proud of her

great-grandchildren that she wanted them to call her Gammy instead of Gamma.

Mary loved the Lord and was a long-time member of Polk Street Methodist

Church where she was a part of the Altergate Sunday School class. She volunteered when needed and was in charge of the birthday bulletin board, which she made sure everyone was included. Mary is preceded in death by her parents, William and Nannie Setzler, her brothers, Billy Setzler and Bobby Setzler, and her sister, Martha Lou Blake.

Mary is survived by her husband Bobby of Amarillo, sons Scot Troxell and wife Jill and Bryan Troxell and wife Kristie, all of Pampa. She is also survived by her grandchildren Emilie Shannon and husband Lucas of Edmond, Oklahoma, Kailyn Logan and husband Tyler of Shallowater, Bret Troxell and wife Bailey of Alanreed, Blayne Troxell and wife Lindsay of Amarillo, Cason Troxell of Miami, Bryson Troxell of Borger, and Marcee Troxell of Lubbock. She has eight great-grandchildren with 2 more on the way - Jay, Barrett, Jett, Emmitt, Mary Cate, Libby, Brock, Madeline, Baby Logan, and Baby Troxell. She is also survived by nephew Von Setzler and niece Kelly Rabe.

Mary’s family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at BSA who showed kindness, patience, and respect through this difficult time. The family would also like to thank Dr. Trehan for taking care of Mary throughout.
