Mathes (Max) Anthony Tillinghast, 30, of Amarillo, TX passed away November 11, 2025.
Visitation will be from 6-8:00 PM, Friday, November 14, 2025 at Boxwell Brothers, 2800 Paramount. Funeral service will be at 10:00 AM, Saturday, November 15, 2025 at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel. Interment will follow in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
Max was born November 15, 1994 in Houston, TX to Lonnie and Toinette Tillinghast. He was appropriately nicknamed Max because he was 11 lbs. at birth, often even being called “biggie.”
Max graduated in 2013 from Lovejoy High School. Max then obtained a Bachelors Degree in Civil Engineering from the University of Arkansas where he was a member of Kappa Sig Fraternity.
Max was known for his big adventurous spirit, he had a heart of gold, and he gave the best bear hugs. He treasured his family and loved big! His passions were anything outdoors, basketball/football and going to the gym. Max loved to travel and spent 3 years in Ketchikan, Alaska which were some of the happiest days of his life. He loved having a job that allowed him to travel. Max had an incredible work ethic. He was always viewed as the kind of guy who would give you the shirt off his back. Max was the gentlest of giants and had the wittiest sense of humor.
Max is survived by many friends and relatives including his parents, Lonnie and Toinette Tillinghast; siblings, Sam Tillinghast and fiancée Ashley Fahey, Gabby Tillinghast and fiancé Sam Rich, and Gracie Tillinghast; and his grandparents, Soeurette and Bob Cowan, and Jack and Theresa Tillinghast. He is preceded in death by his grandmother, Portia Tillinghast.
