Melody “Kay” Harz was born on August 14, 1953 in Amarillo, TX to Robert Crockett Brownlee and Martha Mae Guffey. She attended St. Mary’s Catholic School until 6th grade, making a brief transition to Avondale, and then attended Sam Houston Middle School before completing her education as a Tascosa Rebel.
Kay met her soulmate Otto Harz in late 1970 and they wed on April 10, 1971. They started a family soon after and brought their beloved daughter Christy and son Micheal into the world.
Kay and Otto were very hard working, and eventually bought Circle N Service together in 1990, which they ran side by side for 30 years. Kay and Otto were not only soulmates, but best friends and went on many memorable adventures together. They were members of the Amarillo Corvette club for many years and spent much of their free time cruising the roads or entering car shows in their favorite classic cars.
Kay was a devout wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She loved her family fiercely and was often the one behind the camera lens to capture all of the love going on around her. She loved all things sparkly, Mickey Mouse, and had the biggest sweet tooth. You would hardly ever catch her without a large, ice cold Dr. Pepper in hand.
Kay is preceded in death by her mother, Martha and step-father Bill; her father, RC “Pete” and stepmother Charlie; her in-laws, John and Helen; her beloved Otto; her brother, Bob Brownlee; and her great-grandson, Paxton Barclay.
Kay is survived by her sisters - Cheryl, Rena, Kathy, and Jodi; daughter, Christy and husband Cody Yates of Turkey, TX; her son, Mike Harz and his wife Colomba of Amarillo, TX; 14 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Pat Brownlee of Houston, TX; and brother, Dieter Harz and wife Candy.
