Merna Pierce, 91, of Dumas, TX passed away May 12, 2025.
Merna was born April 9, 1934 in Bradshaw, Texas and graduated from Winters High School. While attending high school, she was active in numerous clubs and played on the Varsity basketball team. After high school, she attended McMurry College in Abilene.
Merna married Jack in 1954 and moved to Odessa and started a family.
Merna was proceeded in death by husband, Jack Pierce; son, Bob Pierce; brothers, Jimmie Traylor and David Traylor; and sister, Peggy Fikes.
She is survived by son, Jack Pierce; daughter, Patricia Clements; three grandchildren, Morgan Rowell, Jake Clements and Thomas Olson; great- grandchildren, Jayci Casher, Lauren Jennings and Grayson Rowell; great great-grandchildren, Caia Casher and Clara Casher; twin sister, Minnie Whitehouse; and sister, Nell Cook.
Merna had been a resident of Dumas since 1966. She was a paralegal and a member of the Panhandle Paralegal Association. She worked for a number of years for Metcalf & Minkley Law Firm and retired from Valero Energy.
She was an active member of the Women’s Chamber Division. She was active in Girl Scouts since 1968 and continued as a board member throughout her life. She was the president of the local Pilot Club Service Organization for a number of years, along with United Way, and Red Cross Emergency Unit. Over the years, Merna volunteered at the Windows on the Plains Museum, the gift shop at the hospital, Meals on Wheels and Dogie Days. She was always happy to help friends and the community. She loved her family, quilting, and working in her yard. She enjoyed learning the history of Texas and visited and photographed all 254 county courthouses.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Saturday, May 17, 2025 at Tecumseh Cemetery with John Fanning as officiant. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors of Dumas.
