AMARILLO — Mike E. Phillips, 78, a devoted family man and "gentle giant" passed away on January 3, 2026.
Memorial Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Tuesday, January 6, at Paramount Baptist Church with David Preston officiating. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers, 2800 Paramount Blvd, Amarillo, Texas.
Mike was born March 31, 1947, in Childress, Texas, to Olen and Christine Phillips. A proud member of the Amarillo High School Class of 1965, he went on to attend Amarillo College and West Texas State University. On June 13, 1970, he married Betty Craig, in Amarillo.
Mike’s 50-year career as a salesman for Southwestern Drug Company and Grainger was defined by his belief that business was first and foremost about building relationships. He used his career as a platform to show kindness to others and point them toward his faith in Jesus. Following his retirement, Mike continued his ministry of friendship at Paramount Baptist Church, where he served as a greeter at the recreation center, and was also ordained as a deacon. Mike will be remembered for his stature, his soft heart, and his unwavering conviction that kindness always matters.
Mike was happiest outdoors or watching baseball, especially his beloved Amarillo High Sandies and Kansas State Wildcats.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Olen and Christine Phillips, and a brother, Donald Phillips.
He is survived by his wife, Betty; a son, Kevin Phillips and wife Kim; a daughter, Kimberly Parnell and husband Ryan; a brother, Darryl Phillips and wife Leah; four grandchildren, Conner Phillips and fiancée Molly Fluhman, Bryson Parnell, Cayden Phillips, and Bentley Parnell; and many nieces and nephews.
