Nancy Lee Gilmore Moyer Faetche

Nancy Lee Gilmore Moyer Faetche joined her heavenly father on April 26th, 2025.

Nancy was born in Old Gulf Hospital near Matagorda, Texas on October 4, 1932 to Nona E. Murdoch Gilmore and Hugh Murray Gilmore. She had an older brother James Madison Gilmore and sister Mary Eva Gilmore Welenteichick.

Hugh Gilmore worked for the Texas Gulf Sulphur Company and moved the family to New Gulf, Texas. Nancy attended New Gulf Grade School and the First Baptist Church. She graduated from Boling High School and went on to attend University of Texas at Austin, majoring in Personnel Management with a minor in accounting. While in Austin she worked for the Texas Insurance Commission and later for Jon Van Cronkite Associates. Her most interesting assignment was working for the Texas Democrats for Eisenhower and he did carry Texas.

Nancy married J. Hudson Moyer in 1954 and they had three children: Jay H. Moyer, Katina Elizabeth Moyer, and Jon Gilmore Moyer. On April 1, 1975, Katina Elizabeth Moyer was tragically killed. They resided in Amarillo, Texas for 62 years.

In 1970 Nancy and her husband ran for the Texas Senate and the House of Representatives. However, they did not win their races. Nancy began teaching in the social studies department at Palo Duro High School and Hudson continued his law practice.

Nancy truly enjoyed her teaching at Palo Duro High School and was forced into retirement due to an automobile accident. Upon her retirement she did stay active with the Texas Retired Teachers Organization and First Presbyterian Church.

In 2017, she married her very first boyfriend, Albert Faetche Jr. from Wharton, Texas. They resided in Brownwood, Texas.

Nancy leaves earth to take care of Albert Faetche and family.

She is survived by sons, Jay H. Moyer and Jon Gilmore Moyer; grandchildren, Jennifer Katina Moyer Lovato and fiancé Anthony Cordova, Bailey W. Moyer and husband Kellan Jones, and Jon Gilmore “Gil” Moyer, Jr.; and great-grandchildren, Brinley Lovato, Braelyn Lovato, and Stella Hales.

Flowers may be sent to Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd, Amarillo, Texas. Memorials may be sent to the Katina E. Moyer Scholarship Fund c/o Amarillo Area Foundation, Frist Presbyterian Church or a charity of your choice.

Visitation will be from 5-6:30 PM, Wednesday, May 7, 2025 at Boxwell Brothers, 2800 Paramount. Memorial service will be at 3:00 pm, Thursday, May 8, 2025 at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount. Interment will be private in Llano Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
