Nelda Jean Mills was born in Sulphur Springs, Texas, on February 24, 1939, to Marvin and Charlene Wright, and she went to be with her LORD and Savior Jesus Christ on September 5, 2024. Jean married James Mills on October 26, 1957; they were married for 66 years. James and Jean have two children, Marsha married to Ron Harvell, and Gregg married to Lisa. They have 4 grandchildren, Stephanie married to Jonathan Lee; Jessica married to Ben Stallwitz; Steven Harvell married to Rachel; and Matthew Mills married to Kristen, and they have 14 great-grandchildren. Jean had a sister, LaVerle McCollaum and two nephews, Glenn Brunt married to Cheryl and J.D. McCollaum.
Being home with Jesus, Jean is more alive than she has ever been and enjoying to the fullest what she loved and enjoyed during her 85 years on this earth: family, church, friends, flowers, animals—all of God’s creation. Jean faithfully taught 4-year-old Sunday School at Paramount Baptist Church for over 50 years and worked with students at Ridgecrest Elementary School for 25 years. She was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, teacher, and friend. She will be greatly missed by us still in these earthly bodies, but we know we will soon be reunited with her because she faithfully taught us about salvation through Christ alone and that Jesus is our very best and completely trustworthy friend.
We will celebrate Jean’s life on Monday, September 9th at 2:00PM at Paramount Baptist Church in Amarillo, Texas. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.
