Nolden Ray Smith

August 6, 1956 — May 25, 2024

Nolden Smith, 67, of Amarillo, TX passed away Saturday, May 25, 2024.

At Nolden’s request, there will not be any funeral services.  His preference was for family and friends to gather at his and Jan’s home for a meal, laughter, and to share old and new memories.  Arrangements by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors, 2800 Paramount Blvd.

Nolden was born August 6, 1956, in Oklahoma City, OK to Bill Smith and Betty Moore Smith.  He attended schools in Amarillo, TX, graduating from Caprock High Schol in 1974.

Nolden was a member of Christian Heritage Church.  He was a licensed contractor but really a man of many trades.  He could fix cars, trucks, motorcycles, go-carts, or he could build you a beautiful home.  He was unlimited in his skills.

He and Jan Guthrie were married on October 24, 1981.  They traveled to many places over the years.  Sometimes the family didn’t see them for a year.  They would find a town that caught their fancy (usually by a water bank, or as near to water as they could get) and find a house to remodel or Nolden would build a new one.  They lived an adventurous life.

He was preceded in death by his father, Bill Smith; his son, Larry; his daughter, Keri Ann; his grandson, Wyatt; and three brothers-in-law, Lee Banks, Larry Guthrie, and Gary Thornberry.

Survivors include his mother, Betty Smith; his wife, Jan; sister, Carla; son-in-law, Gary Nebgen and wife Melissa; grandsons, Wesley and Hoyt Nebgen; nieces, Jean and Neil Campbell, Raquel and John Adams, Sarah and Tyler Woolsey, Jessica and Johnathan Dean; nephews, Karlton Banks and wife Melissa, Mike Thornberry and wife Rachel, and Brandson Thornberry; several great-nieces and great-nephews; sisters-in-law, Kim and Marvin Bender, and Jennie Thornberry
