Olla Carter Best Johnson

Olla Carter Best Johnson, 94, passed away on June 16, 2023.  Graveside services will be held at 11 am, Monday, June 26, 2023, at Llano Cemetery.

Olla Carter Best Johnson was born in Oklahoma City to Adelaide and Robert Carter on July 22, 1928.  She graduated from Classen High School and attended the University of Oklahoma where she was an active member of Kappa Alpha Theta sorority. After receiving a BA in English and French, Olla married her high school sweetheart, John B. (Jack) Best, Jr. a US Army veteran and graduate of NMMI.  Following several moves, they settled in Amarillo.  Carolyn Ellis Best was born on July 23, 1957. After Jack’s death in 1965, Olla married H. Fred Johnson, M.D.

Olla was an active member of the Junior League of Amarillo and was chosen as the Sustainer of the Year.  In addition, she was active and in leadership of the Texas Association of Symphony Orchestras, Amarillo Symphony Guild, and Amarillo Museum of Art.  She was also an avid tennis and golf player. Her

favorite pastime was event and party planner.

Surviving family members are daughter, Carolyn Johnson Archer and her husband James Archer, two grandchildren Ben Archer and Sam Archer, and five great-grandchildren. She was pre-deceased by parents Adelaide McCall Carter and Robert Hutson Carter, husbands John B. Best, Jr., H.Fred Johnson, M.D., and her sisters, Adelaide Carter Kline and Mary Louise (Sis) Carter Davis.
