Orlando Roman Pacheco, 90, of Amarillo, TX passed away August 17, 2025.
Rosary will be said at 6:00 PM, Wednesday, August 20, 2025, at Boxwell Brothers Ivy Chapel, 2800 Paramount. Funeral mass will be celebrated at 1:00 PM, Thursday, August 21, 2025, at St. Mary’s Cathedral, 1200 Washington. An additional Rosary will be said at 1:30 PM, (MST), Friday, August 22, 2025 at St. Jude's Church, 28104 Peter Hurd Loop, San Patricio, NM with interment following at 2:00 PM, (MST), at St. Jude’s Church Cemetery. Arrangements are by Boxwell Brothers Funeral Directors.
Orlando was born May 20, 1935, in San Patricio, NM to Fermin Pacheco and Ignacia “Inez” Gomez.
Orlando started school in Arabela, NM before moving to San Patricio. He graduated high school valedictorian. Afterwards he attended New Mexico State University where he studied Civil Engineering. He then went into the Army where he was stationed at Ft. Lewis, WA. After leaving the army he moved to Albuquerque, NM where he worked as a civil engineer for the Bureau of Reclamation and met his wife, Mary Gurule. He was later transferred with the Bureau to Amarillo, TX, where he resided until his death. He spent much of his life working at the family ranch in San Patricio tending to his cattle. He loved the outdoors, working with his hands and spending time with his family. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Cathedral.
He is survived by his loving wife of sixty-five years, Mary Rose Pacheco, his five children; James Pacheco, Deolinda (Vincent) Larsen, Daniel (Deborah) Pacheco, Karen (Tyson) Berryman, Camille (Peter) Denis. His seventeen grandchildren, JohnPaul, Marla, Morgan, Madison, MaryPaul, Maya, Megan, Holly, Victoria, Benjamin, Jessica, Jordan, Addison, Nelson, Danielle, Riley and Arabela. Three great-grandchildren Wally, Ward and Adeline. His brother-in-law David McKinley, his sister-in-law Martha Archuleta, and brother and sister-in-law Anthony and Martha Gurule. Along with many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Fermin and Inez Pacheco, his brother and sister-in-law Roman and Lucy Pacheco and his sister Beatrice McKinley.
